Internet!?

Post by geno whirl »

Hey you guys. I have found this site a valuable resource and was surprised to realize that there is a section for computer help so here we go. A few days ago our internet was suddenly screwed up. Not the internet exactly but the programs that are used to surf the web. IE8 can only load one tab/window, firefox gives the "firefox is not responding. please close firefox or restart your computer" thing, and Google chrome gives the "oh, snap!" page. I have uninstalled firefox and chrome then reinstalled them without any luck. Anybody have any ideas?

Run anti-malware software like Spy Bot Search and destroy. Some malware will make it so you can only use a compromised version of IE.

Barring malware, it could be a corrupt DLL somewhere. Usually it's easier to just reinstall Windows than track down the exact problem.

Install and run MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware, let it remove anything it finds. Then restart and see if the problems persist.

I agree. This is a great place to start.

Sorry I haven't replied in a while. I ran spybot and it didn't really help. A few days later, itunes was no longer able to play any music. I decided that enough was enough and wiped my computer clean and installed Ubuntu

Not really :? I like the overall operating system but I don't own a laptop that actually works with Ubuntu and itunes doesn't work. I'm close to tearing out my hair :x

I installed linux quite some time ago for basically the same reasons, I think it's silly to say that linux doesn't have any problems but I got used to it and for some inexplicable reason I stuck to it.

As for iTunes, I got an iTouch for christmas and I can't put any music on it because apple decided to lock their software down enough that you can't homebrew your own solutions easily and doesn't give any linux support either. Tried wine, didn't work with iTunes so now I can't put any music on my iPod. I'm gonna have to figure out how to jailbreak it one of these days

HP is good when it comes to linux. Avoid cannon.

As for iTunes, I hear older versions work, but I tried installing 9 and 8 and neither worked.

Found a fix. I'm actually surprised i didn't think of it before. I installed virtualbox and made a new one with windows xp on it. It's a bit of a hassle, but not too bad
