HELP!

alright i was just downstairs trying to desolder. i was down there for 30 minutes and made no progress. i think its my iron. i have a 25 watt radio shack one.
do you think i need a higher wattage? or weller?

What exactly is the problem you're having? For the N64, you should be fine with what you have. Wellers are nice, but not necessary on an N64. Have you had much experience soldering before? You may not be doing it right.

i think my iron isnt hot enough. and no..... this was my first time but my dad showed me but he had a different iron. he did it in seconds

weird. I have an iron of similar wattage and didn't have a problem with an N64 board. Try a new iron?

couldn't melt the board solder with my 15W iron, I had to break out my 30W, worked fine for me, are you using a braid or or a desoldering pump/iron ?

My Radioshack 15W can handle the N64 board just fine, and my desoldering iron melts even better.

I've been having a similar problem with my Weller 25w. For some reason it just doesn't hack it on the N64 board (for desoldering). Bought a Radioshack desoldering iron for $10 and it works like a champ! Good investment IMO.

well im using a braid not a pump. i think ill just buy a 40 watt one and use my 25 watt for gameboys

Try using some flux or adding a little new solder to the joint first. Most old joints need a little encouragement to melt.

i have flux but i dont know how to use it .... tips?

Uh, smear some on, also, apply solder to the joints, sometimes it makes them easier to wick away.
