Spotify MP3 Player : Ever Possible?

Post by modginner »

Hey,

I was walking down the street the other day and I came up with an interesting idea. A Spotify MP3 Player.

Considering the general shrinkage of all computer components, it occurred to me that it could be possible to construct a tiny PC circuitry (size of an original iPod) and a small wireless chip to create a hotspot-able Spotify player in your pocket.

It would need to run an incredibly slimmed down version of XP in order to operate.

In theory it could work, but, I’ve never modded before so I’m putting this idea out there and would like just a general conversation about it to get going. Doubt it will ever come to anything, but, would be a cool discussion I feel.

It’s going to need the following:

ARM Processor?
Headphone Jack
Flash Memory and USB connector
LCD display

Once again, putting the idea out there for discussion. Not for scrutiny of the little amount of modding I know, or my lack of knowledge in computer circuitry.

Cheers Guys :)

Fair point, a lot easier.

I'm just wondering anyway, as it would be extremely interesting. I was just looking at building my own MP3 Player, and thought about how small it could be.

Could make it vey small if you used a gumstix computer. They're teeeennnyyy.

If you want to try to build an MP3 player, have a look at the Daisy MP3 from Makezine.

One Big Problem:
XP can't run on an ARM processor.

Was going to say this myself. If you're going to use ARM, Linux is your best bet.

As the processors you want to use are all non x86 you are going to have to use and x86 processor or port the android or (i refuse to type it) version to linux(lol good luck) for a x mas present, i built my mum a music server, its a little shuttle pc running vnc and spotify through wine and with wireless headphones its almost simialr to what you describe.(well not really but, yeh). if i was you i would get a small cheap MID like the smart q 5 or something , whack android on it and pay for spotify, or buy one of those.
