And australian dollars are worth less. You have to be careful that you don't get new look alike NES controllers.Tibia wrote:i think he's in Australia. Not sure what Australia e-Bay has for NES controllers.

finished, soldering hurts... my camera is out of batteries so you'll have to wait for pics. I agree with Jakq; this is the best thing thats happened to my 360.

hot glue=yuck
You should've used a Genesis 6-button d-pad instead. Not only is it far superior to any D-Pad ever made by Nintendo, but it would probably be able to use the stock conductive membranes instead of hot gluing a chopped piece of an NES board in there. God, what a risk, if that happened to not line up just right, you'd have been screwed. This does give me an idea though: Neo Geo CD/Pocket thumbstick in place of a d-pad...hmmmm...yes...it just might work.

i personally prefer a plus shaped dpad to those circle ones
Re: NES D-pad in a 360 controller
It's too bad I didn't see your controller before I went and made mine up, that way I could have used it as a template for how it could have been done, oh wait.17daysolderthannes wrote:hot glue=yuck

If ya think ya can just drop a Genesis D-pad in there and use the original 360 D-pad contacts go for it, if I had one to trash I already would have, but it wouldn't have gone that easily I can assure ya and part of the problem with the 360 D-pad is that it's so tall anyway, makes for a sloppy feel, a good D-pad is really close to the board, like the Genesis.
The NES board lines up just fine under the NES D-pad, because it's supposed too, not sure what ya mean there, and as far as it being twisted left/right that can't easily happen, because of the hot glue, and if it wasn't able to be lined up then I wouldn't have used it. Try using epoxy on something like that, then have to tear it back down and see what kinda fun it is. There's nothing at all wrong with hot glue and the spacers between the NES and 360 boards are doing all of the real work of keeping the board in place anyway. The top part of the D-pad shell is installed with epoxy, but there's just no point at all in using it to hold the board in place. Also it was mentioned earlier in the thread that if it was done again the board would have been notched to keep any twisting from occurring, thus eliminating the need for your arch enemy, hot glue.

Re: NES D-pad in a 360 controller
Welp, finally got batteries! here you go! not sure if you can see that the spray pain I used is causing black marks, but the case I bought for $25 wasn't all that chop anyway, and hey it's functional, next time I think I'll only spray the grey NES part instead of trying to make the whole damn thing look factory. I'd like to spray the NES part black and put it in one of those red controllers with the black trimmings, I think that would look sweet. One of these look like a good option for this mod too but I could be wrong.
OK, so here are the pics;
Before Painting

Finished product

Close-up, notice the flaw

Two rubber dome things, the broken one I got in the NES, and the one I used instead

Back of shell, where I soldered the ground, also you can see some of the chips in the casing

I just realised some of my drawings got into the shots, lol hope you enjoy them.

Re: NES D-pad in a 360 controller
I have been trying this with a gamecube d-pad but the the controller kept thinking that rb was always being pushed. Maybe with will tear it down and do it with a new nes dpad instead.
That's Hacking Awsome

Make sure the 360 controller you're using is the CG or CG2 version..Hifeno wrote:I have been trying this with a gamecube d-pad but the the controller kept thinking that rb was always being pushed. Maybe with will tear it down and do it with a new nes dpad instead.

Also make sure there's nothing physically pressing on the RB button when putting the controller back together.
