is it possible to use a netbook as monitor? (intact one)

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

No. If the screen doesn't have an input it won't work.

Well technically you could get a controller for it. But you would have to get someone in China to make ot for you. Which would involve sending your screen to them, waiting 8 weeks for a controller to be made and spending over $100 for it.

So no. Like I said.

Well, there's a way you can do this. Use one of those USB-composite converters, those sometimes work alright. I've heard they've had problems with lag though, and you'll have to keep the whole netbook intact, it will raw power from your battery, it will have to be on to play, etc. etc.

I've thought about getting a netbook and making an emulator handheld before.

If you want to use it as a screen for something like a SNESp, you should sell the netbook and then buy a 10" portable DVD player that has a video input.

Ya, it's really a waste of a netbook when a 10" Dvd/media player only costs $100 or so on ebay.

It technically would work, but i happen to be using one now to type this mesage and i can say that they do guzzle a lot of power , you will need to feed it at least 2-3 amps and the screen isnt that great anyway the composite to usb converters are awful quality, you will have to have a full blown hard drive in there, or at least a memory stick ifyour feeling adventurous enough o get your usb to composite adapter working under linux. And my netbook wont be able to shutdown at night knowing another of its knd is being used just as a screen.

well i wanted to make a ps2 laptop (kinda gave up on making ps2 handheld... it tends to die in my hands...)

i do have a portable dvd player with a/v input, its just really heavy... maybe i can trim the weight by taking stuff out of it like the dvd and the all metal case? i dont want to bec it actually plays divx and is pretty nice unit...

i wouldnt mind keeping the netbook intact as that is what i want to do in the first place (im using it to type this up right now... i might be better at typing with this than my main computer due to how much more blog and forum posts i do with this thing lol)

by the way, i have a toshiba SDP91S portable dvd player

oh and my netbook lasts about 7 hour ish without wifi so yea

I heard it wasn't too bad as long as it wasn't doing sound/you use line in for sound.

My ps2 power supply is 8.5V, but anyways, i can run it down to about 7V before the strnage things happen. I wouldnt advise using a lipo on it as in my experice ocervolting ps2 motherobard by even just a bit means smoke.
