That IS true - infact, that reminds me of something Britney Spears said a couple of years back, she said "I realy like going overseas to places like Canada." What a Jackass.

Wow, I think I just reiterated why I didn't want to read or get involved in this thread. I also think I just lost faith in half of humanity. It's really a pain the butt actually knowing what you are talking about, I have to fix everyone's damn computers :|

All right I have a new non-hacker stupidity. Not really a conversation though.

Alright, my friend is convinced that any kind of physical or softmod done to a console is illegal. Including making a portable. I have an example here.

ME: Alright so *tell him all the specs of the portable* About the battery and screen, etc. etc.
HIM: This is so illegal
ME:

He's right about mods like modchips and flashcards but he thinks anything is illegal.

I asked him if he thought just giving the console a paint job was illegal and he said yes.
He even thinks that taking apart the console is illegal.

Non hacker, yeah. :?
Flashcarts aren't illegal. Pirating games and putting them on them is. I don't think modchips are illegal either... But noone installs a modchip just to play homebrew, you can just softmod for that. But they do void your warranty. OH NOES, NOT DA WARRANTY!!!

it's illegal in the US, not in Canada or Australia, not sure about the rest of the world.

Correct.
I don't think modchips are illegal either...
If they circumvent the systems in the console that make sure a game is legit, they technically break the DMCA.

I was in my group's office (part-time job) last night. My manager uses a Macintosh. Well it started to freeze or something, so he asked everyone to send it good karma.... Saying things like, "Macs are good." The computer started working fine a few seconds later. Really this guy has had a Mac for over two years. It's time to learn how to fix it, if need be.

Heh.

For further clarification, Windows executables do not run on non-Windows operating systems, whereas DOS executables will, of course, run on DOS machines, or OS/2 .exe files run on OS/2 systems, etc.

An .exe file extension is not limited to just Windows.

God I feel like Captain Obvious. Sorry.

If a softmod does that, is it illegal? *coughsoftmiicough*

Well I knew that about DOS, but what the heck's OS/2? Mac OS? And some .exe files can be run on Linux/Unix machines through an awesome program called Wine, but games and other extensive CPU using programs (like screen capture) won't work on crappy computers. (like mine.) Windows .exe files are only supposed to work on Windows, though. :P
