Has anyone bought one of these or can tell me anything about it? I'm not as interested in portables as everyone else here, but this is the only forum I know of that isn't up their own ass with real hardware elitism (I have the real hardware too, I just think this is cool, can't understand why some others don't). It does certainly seem portable friendly though with that big section at the top that would happily accept a screen.

For those not quite sure of what they're looking at, this is some sort of Genesis ROM playing device that hooks straight to the TV with composite cables. You put the games on an SD card (up to 4 GB card I believe), transfer it onto the 64MB internal storage, and go to town. You can even plug in a second controller (a REAL Genesis controller) and play 2 players with it.

Say what you will about clones, but this is a fully justified purchase for any Genesis fan IMO, especially one that doesn't feel comfortable with software modding. You can bring this anywhere, even in the car via in car DVD screens. This would also be great to get that son/daughter/niece/nephew into retro games without risking precious vintage hardware or having them get confused with complicated emulators. I would've bought one already if I didn't have a modded XBOX for at home and 2 modded PSPs for on the road.

oh, and here's some gameplay footage:
*sigh* how do you use youtube tags here!?

I know Palmertech has ordered one, but I'm not sure if he received it yet. I'm sure he'll find out whether it's an emulator or GOAC and post it somewhere.

So that's where you preorder that thing? I've been trying to find that.

I'd say give that other genesis thing a go! Why not?

hmmm, looks a little sketch, but no worse than an XBOX 360, lmao. I still can't tell, is it GOAC or some sort of basic computer running an emulator? The menus remind me of multi-carts and such, making me believe (or want to believe) it's truly a GOAC.

Also, why would I want to buy that handheld with pre-loaded games and a cartridge slot? It doesn't support SD! The whole point of this thing is that it supports ROMs on an SD card. Yeah, I already have a PSP and a modded XBOX that can do that (like I said in my first post), but I like how this is all in one without any system modding or anything, making it noob friendly for kids or adults that aren't computer savvy and freak out when it comes to configuring video/audio settings on emulators. I know it goes against everything this forum is about, but screw real cartridges if I can dump ROMs on an SD card and go to town on somewhat real hardware. What disappoints me is that this all in one system is $20, yet a USB flash cart is $150 from NeoFlash.

I think EVIL NOD's using one. I don't remember there being a worklog for it here, check ModRetro.

All I can say about this is that I want one, even if it is crap. If only I had a screen, I would have plans for it.

Same reason we all have those cheap NOAC's, right? :P
Making stuff with my new beautiful CNC machine!
Would you like a professional looking custom case for your portable? I may be able to help you. Check out this link:

After 3 weeks mine came.

The board inside is about 2 inches wide and 1.5" tall. Amazing.

It works very well. Graphics are spot-on. The analog circuitry is cheap and there is some very occasional shimmering on dithered backgrounds (Race Driving).

Sound emulation is good except for YM2612. If you've heard a real genesis before you'll notice a slight difference. Very occasionally one note will be slightly flat/lower frequency but unless you have a music ear you won't care.

The menu intro graphic is ripped from Ristar.

When my tsop48 breakout board comes, I'll wire this to my usb protoboard and dump the flash rom. Then we'll know if this is a hardware clone or a software emulator.

I'm going to bet it's a hardware clone. If it was software they would have ripped from the already existing emulator sources with perfect sound emulation.

When you say the YMwhatever isn't right does this mean that the rings in sonic are really quiet? Or just some frequencies are slightly flat?
