Converting a cartrige-based console to read SD cards?
Hi folks,
New member here, with a question that has been bugging me for some time. As we all know there are emulators out there for just about every old console, but the best emulator would be to actually play the games on the console itself - surely it would be possible to modify a console so that instead of reading from a cartrige, it reads the image of the data that was on the cartrige (i.e. a ROM) from an SD card?
Is there a reason why this would not be possible?

Something such as this? http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.ph ... ucts_id=34
It doesn't have 100% support yet, though. And that takes a CF card.

I'm pretty sure he means hooking the NES(just an example) up to the computer and loading the games through the NES onto an emulator.

No I think he just wants a pirate cart.
His use of the term "emulator" to refer to the actual original hardware is just misleading.
Anways they have that already for the DS and DSlite, and I think Ive seen some EEPRom based NES and SNES carts. Its something that takes a lot of development time though, and for a console that uses a CD drive its not even worth it unless its like sega saturn.

I think he means make like an SD slot on a cartridge console so it reads the games of that.

flashcarts are available for most cart based systems but are usually pricey (for the uncommon/less popular systems especially) and are often pretty limited in how many games they can hold, and types of memory used (rarely CD, sometimes CF)
