Internet for the PS2
I've seen guides on how to hook a regular hard drive up to a PS2 as well as god-knows-how-many modchip guides. I've seen guides on casemodding and even one on how to take a guitar amp and cram it into a PS2. I have not, however, found anything on the ethernet adapter for the fat PS2. It fits in the expansion bay along with a hard drive and allows you to get internet access on your PS2.
However, I really don't understand the point in shelling out $40 on something like this if I can get a home-made one working.
Is it possible to make your own ethernet adapter for the PS2? What would it involve? If only it'd be something simple like taking a network card out of a computer and figuring out which contact goes where. Of course, it's never simple. ;-;

This is the phat model, hence the mention of an expansion bay.snowpenguin wrote:Doesn't the slim have one built in?

I really don't think it would be that simple, and being that there are no guides on it you would have to put $40 worth of work into it just to figure it out.

Yeah I knew you were talking about the old one. I'm not THAT dumb! And I agree with stuntpenguin. Stole the words right out of my mouth!

You got one of these and never bothered to take it apart? My good man, this is blasphemy!SonyPortableizer wrote:look on amazon, I got one for $20. It was from a couple who got married and I got it from the girl. Look around you can get lucky
But yeah, I figured it'd be cheaper if someone had already done it. I guess I'll check Craigslist and whatnot for an exceptionally cheap one and hack it open for the sake of science.

Re: Internet for the PS2
I've got one I could open up and take some pictures, but that's all the help I've got. The Phat I'm using it on will NOT be undergoing any major mods, hence why I got it.

Re: Internet for the PS2
I'll see if I can get one for free from my job. If so, I'll open it up and take some pics.

Got some pics. I don't know how many of the chips are for Ethernet, and how many are for the hard drive, but it sure doesn't look like anything you can do for under $40. Click for bigger.
