Mega drive problem
Hi guys, I just got myself a free Mega Drive 2, and a copy of moonwalker.
Anyway, its only showing partial signs of life. Ive tried on two tvs, and im certain its tuned in, because when its off, I get snow, when its on, i get a black screen. Problem is, it stays black with the cart in. Ive cleaned everything up with compressed air, and used alcohol on the cart, which looks almost like new, and still, black screen. Inoticed some white residue around the leftt screw of the cart slot, might that be a problem?

Re: Mega drive problem
If its just around the screw the white stuff isnt the problem. Check and see if theres some capacitors or somthing that leaked thogh. They might need replaceing. What purity of alcohol did you use? Less than 90% pure MAY still leav a residue even if it looks fine. What kind of tv connection are you using? RCA cables or the RF cable? RF sucks and doesnt work worth crap somtimes.
copulate all you goddamn smartasses.
Re: Mega drive problem
Try a different game. 90% probability it's the game.
Re: Mega drive problem
I'm using the RF cable, I wanted to see if I could get it going on that first. And yeah, I was using 85% if I remember, will check.Taiben wrote:If its just around the screw the white stuff isnt the problem. Check and see if theres some capacitors or somthing that leaked thogh. Alright, I'll try and get hold of another cart, I was just hoping it'd be dirty.XCVG wrote:Try a different game. 90% probability it's the game.
Thanks
Re: Mega drive problem
Alright, finally got around to trying it with another cart, and worked right away, so it's the Moonwalker cart that's the issue. I'll try and open the cart and give it a good clean when I get chance. Thanks guys.
Re: Mega drive problem
If you can't get the cart to work by cleaning, sand the contacts. It sounds stupid (and it is, it destroys the protective plating) but can bring an otherwise dead cart back to life.adam_d wrote:Alright, finally got around to trying it with another cart, and worked right away, so it's the Moonwalker cart that's the issue. Re: Mega drive problem
A good way to clean the tips, is to use an eraser and rub it against the contacts.

You have to get moonwalker to work! 'Just Beat it...Beat it'adam_d wrote:Alright, finally got around to trying it with another cart, and worked right away, so it's the Moonwalker cart that's the issue. I'll try and open the cart and give it a good clean when I get chance. Thanks guys.

Re: Mega drive problem
My Genesis II (basically identical) sometimes doesn't work with some cartridges if they're not in exactly the way it wants. Try wedging a piece of cardboard in front or in back of the cartyridge after you put it in.
Chances are you might have to do what I did: use a thick needle to pull the contacts in the slot out.

Be very careful doing this, I almost broke a pin doing this. Find a small needle to wedge it in the contact and use a soldering iron to "weld" it in place. This works a little better than just bending it.bicostp wrote: Chances are you might have to do what I did: use a thick needle to pull the contacts in the slot out.
