It's a trap, if you say you deleted it then you have indicated that you had downloaded it. Tell them you didn't download it and to stop causing you harassment by chasing an innocent minor on ridiculous charges. Also, change your ISP.
Re: Piracy! Those of us who get busted...
It's pretty much like the communist scare though and they're the American government saying, "well we know you're not a communist but other people can't know that we were wrong otherwise they wouldn't be scared of us anymore so if you just say that you're SORRY for being a communist this will all go away." I don't get to say what I want and if I try to prove anything other than what they're telling me to do I'm going to get shafted hard and made an example of.bacteria wrote:It's a trap, if you say you deleted it then you have indicated that you had downloaded it. Yeah, as I said, there's no proof, right? And a lot of these letters are scams, and can be used as admission of guilt if you pay them any money that they ask for. For all you know, it was somebody who drove by looking for unsecured wireless signals. If your ISP really goes up your ass about it, switch.Biased wrote:It's ridiculous. I don't even have a gamecube at my house. The one I do own is sitting at a friend's house right now because he took it's power supply and controllers for his own cube and I just left everything there. I don't have a wii, either, or any way of running an image of a gamecube game. My COMPUTER isn't even good enough to run a gamecube emulator! It's just ridiculous. What's the point of prosecuting or pressing any charges for a GAMECUBE GAME? Legal resources are being wasted on that when they could bust people for illicit pornography or looking up how to build bombs. How does nintendo make money from them anymore? Retailers don't sell gamecube games.

That sucks. These days I can only download 250GB a month since Comcast got all retarded and wants to punish us all for what I do. Oh well.
Tell your ISP, if it is actually them, to go find something better to do than harass you and make it seem like you don't care. Worst thing that happens is they come find you and ask to search your files and then once you are proven innocent, you can get out the shotgun and tell them to get the copulate off your property

The thing is just that it doesn't really matter if you did it, if it was your connection.

If someone hijacks your car and goes on a highspeed chase, are you liable?

If you go to court, you win, and can counter-sue them.jjhammerstein wrote:If someone hijacks your car and goes on a highspeed chase, are you liable?
Edit: whoops, I read it as "If someone hijacks your connection"

I'm afraid that parallels do not defy the law. Think of your internet access as explosives. If you just leave them lying around and somebody takes them and blows up a house, you get charged too. I'm not saying that I support this, but that's the way it goes.jjhammerstein wrote:If someone hijacks your car and goes on a highspeed chase, are you liable?

Screw what everyone else has said. Ignore it. If it's legit you'll get a second warning.

Isn't there a law against posing a certain limit on bandwidth? If you're paying for a high-speed connection you should get to use that connection for what you need it for and how long you need it for, not to mention how much you need.

But you are agreeing to it when you sign up for their service, or when they update their TOS.Biased wrote:Isn't there a law against posing a certain limit on bandwidth?
