baby 64 - (pics & wip)

Post by tysonDS »

Hi guys, after putting my snesp on the backburner, I decided to take a hacksaw to my N64 and I'm pretty happy with the results thus far even though I'm far from finished.

My aim is not a portable, but instead end up with an N64 that has about a 40% size reduction and still looks and works like an N64!

I think it would look awesome as a feature on my coffee table while not taking up much space, and help me relive those Goldeneye days ;)

I got it down to about the size of a gamecube controller with barely any soldering.
Except the 4 ports had to be removed and the A/V and Power port may have to be moved yet.

I can still cut a massive amount off the back of the 64, although I'm still waiting at the moment because I really like the curves on the corner. I will most likely hack it straight off and replace the back wall with a piece of plexi.

Thanks for looking!
I am a case modder trying to be a portablizer. Will get there one day. :)

Very sleek. :) Are you only gonna have 2 controller ports on it?

I was considering doing this very thing ever since I opened up the N64 and saw how much empty space there was in there (in there... in there... in there...).

Good job!

Excellent! If you're that handy with a hacksaw, you could take down the corners of the mobo quite a bit for some more shrinkage ;) and don't change the back!!!

Also, keep the back. The curves look great, and it's cool as a square. :)

 that thing is sweet, i was thinking of doing that to my original playstation and putting the disc assembly on the bottom. Heres an idea to get around using only two controller ports, use LifeofBrian's LOB64 interface which should work just fine and it will link to other portables too. I'm impressed! it makes me think of one of those Hori mini n64 controllers or the radica Genesis case! Good Luck! I'm tempted to try something like that with my PSX but I broke all my cutting bits for my Dremel (the instructions said they were cutting bits) and I'm too lazy to bike down to my local home depot and I'm trying to save my money for my fifth 2.5 inch LCD because of AEICOMP poorly manufacturing their LCDs to die within 2 weeks and to have lines go through the picture. In other words, I'm speechless
i hate how electronic part suppliers give you an option on their website to filter your searches so that you can find a certain part and no results come up!
