Whats the big capacitor on the SNES mobo? 2200uF ?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Whats the big capacitor on the SNES mobo? 2200uF ?

Post by tysonDS »

Hi, sorry just a quick question. I'm at work and I need to buy another one of those huge capacitors for my SNES mobo.

From memory I think it was a 25v 2200 uF capacitor but I'm not sure.
I'm at work so I can't take a look at the board, could anyone please tell me the numbers on the capacitor so I can buy one today. :)

Thanking youuu :)

Edit: nevermind, I found an old post of bacteria's that indeed confirms the cap is 2200uF.

Oh yeah, I bloody forgot to turn the SNES on and off to empty the capacitor - was unsoldering the capacitor and bridged the two points, DOH. There was a little spark because I bridged the cap - is that enough to kill my SNES mobo or is there a 50/50 chance that the mobo is fine?

That probably won't kill the mobo, probably WILL kill the cap, might kill the fuse.

^ thanks mate. After putting in a new cap the mobo worked fine. They're pretty resilient!

tell me about it. The SNES should work without that 2200 cap as well, though

Yeah, but you'd better have a stable power source.

True. It should not be needed if you use batteries, though.
