Re: Finish your flippin' projects!
Remodeled Gamecube - Got all parts together, looking for a case.
N64p - Got everything wired up besides batteries, need to buy batteries.
PSonp - Cut down screen, started case work, need to buy batteries.
Xbox Tablet - everything wired up, making case.
I will probably finish these in the summer since im kinda busy with school coming to a close.

Re: Finish your flippin' projects!
I've been really hoping to see you finish this one. About your rechargeable batteries.... I have a set of batteries that clips right in the battery compartments, with their own charging jack. They've got a very small charging circuit that I believe could be moved inside the GG itself. I haven't opened them yet, but when I do, I'll PM you some pics, if you're interested.nightwheel wrote:Game Gear Overhual
Fix the audio Cap. Clean the system. Fix it where the system can use rechargeable batteries. Most likely do a back light mod. Possibly do a Video out Mod (if I feel like it).
As for what I'm working on, here's a list. No links, no worklogs. My biggest roadblocks are some major life/work issues, and the fact that my shop is a disaster area that I'm trying to clean and organize.
Atari 2600 console mod- still in brainfart stage
Flashback 1 portable- looking for a new screen
Stereo modding a GG, and improving backlight diffusion
LED backlighting a Nomad and reducing the voltage it needs
GCP- Still in designing stages
SUPER SECRET PROJECT!- You wish I'd tell you. lol
Repairing a pair of SMS systems
Build a mini benchtop PSU- Waiting on some parts
I've got more half-finished things going, but I really need to focus on some.
I've also abandoned quite a few things. lol For example, I was going to case-mod all my home consoles to match my decor better, but that's not happening anymore for various reasons. EDIT: And I've decided to abandon the Radica. The compatibility issues are more than enough to make it not worth pursuing.

HTPC Case
Will be: 70s/80s/discopunk/funkpunk/whateveryouwanttocallit PC case for future HTPC to match the rest of my old-ass stereo system.
No thread yet.
Progress: Gutted an old Gateway ATX tower, pretty much finalized case design. Sourced plexiglass, aluminum, wood, ATX case (soon to be cut down to a motherboard tray), miscellaneous hardware bits.
To do: Drill out rivets, cut backplate hole out, make wooden sides and custom drive mounting system. Get a secondhand reciever to get parts like switches and knobs from. Make VU meter and analog temperature readout that looks like a radio tuner dial. (And of course, purchase the hardware to go inside.)
Currently on hold because: No stable income, student loans take priority.
Nvidia ION Handheld UMPC/Netbook Thingy
Will be: Ultra-mobile PC
Thread: Too lazy to find it right now.
Progress: Made several cardboard-and-tape mockups, refining the 'final' final mock-up
To do: Render in Inkscape/Illustrator instead of blurry 20'th generation Photoshoppery
Currently on hold because: There's no freaking way I'll ever be able to make a real one. Might try to take it further eventually. But seriously, a PSP sized PC that can play Dead Space, CoD4, Left 4 Dead... Admit it, you want one.

NES laptop: On hold for now. Got a case design in Illustrator, but I want something thinner, so I'll go back to that when I finish my.....
NESp: I'm using a Yobo and a PSone screen. I just put a topic up in the NES forum with progress and such. I've got a case design ready to go.
That's it for now!

eN64p. The Economic N64 portable. Built with keeping cost foremost in mind, it's getting to be over my original budget, but I don't care - it's been fun, and still hasn't cost a whole lot of money yet. I need to finish the case up a bit, as various switches need installed as of yet, and I need to get the speakers mounted. The last big project left is getting the charging circuit set up.
Link is in my sig.

lovablechevy - Did you ever get to the bottom of the problem on your GG with the B&W issue on RGB?

Super Secret Project
I'm currently gathering parts. Should be done by the end of May. Only one person on the forums knows what it is. It will be epic, and 10x better than the only other one I've seen.

Re: Finish your flippin' projects!
NESp #2/clear NESp: I had started making a second NESp a while ago, but abandoned it because I didn't like the case. I took the Zenith screen from it for use with an SNESp and decided to combine the rest of the parts with a low-quality pocket TV I got for $3 and a random clear plastic case I had to make a cheap NESp. I have pretty much everything finished except for cutting a few holes in the case for switches and such and getting a rechargeable battery pack for it, so I should hopefully finish it within the next two weeks.
SNESp: Uses an SNES mini and a Zenith 5" screen. I haven't really done much on this one yet except for making a partially successful attempt at relocating the cartridge slot (it only works for a few seconds, I suspect loose solder joints), so I don't expect to finish this any time soon.

my projects:
zn-64 - i've had a very annoying power issue but it's worked out now. got a great dremel at a pawnshop for 10 bucks, and some new collets for it. if i can get some money, all i need is a PSone screen and a charger for the batteries. it should be finished by the middle of may.
if the government will ever permit me with pure uranium rods, then i hope to build a high power tesla coil shrunken for handheld use as a super weapon powered by a mini uranium reactor strapped into a backpack
i wasn't kidding about the tesla coil. i REALLLLLY want to build one

Just a heads up. Difficult. Unless you are not making your own caps, but even then it's still hard. I gave myself a pretty bad shock before I gave up... Be careful.metalcookie wrote:i wasn't kidding about the tesla coil. i REALLLLLY want to build one

Re: Finish your flippin' projects!
yah, i know. i do plan on making my own caps, and i know it's difficult. i've looked at a lot of diagrams and such, and i think i can do it, if my parents will let me. i doubt they will if i tell them i'm making something using a neon sign transformer that shoots lightning out of a pole, but it's worth a shot. i've been shocked before by wall outlets(several times, actually, and i wasn't but ten years old) but i know that if i screw up this time, it's over.
for good
