Mod Ideas!
Hey guys. Every july, I go to an anime/videogaming convention about 2 hours from me, and I really would like to bring something cool this year to impress people. I have some ideas. Tell me what you think about the ideas. Also suggest some ideas too.
1) DS External Controller: A while ago, I saw that someone made an external controller for the DS Lite using a NES Controller. I have an original DS. I see that he hooked the NES controller up to the "filler" cartridge that fits into the DSLite when theres no GBA game in it. Would I be able to use the same method that they used, on my regular DS (Like take a filler cartridge, mod it like he did and stretch the case so it would fit into a regular DS)?(http://hackaday.com/2009/02/22/nes-controller-on-a-ds/). Looks easiest and cheapest.
2)Take a system and make a slimmed down version of it with a new case. I could do N64, or Dreamcast or something. Could be easy or hard and expensive. Depends on system, and case.
3) Make some sort of PCp tablet. Expensive but looks easy due to the fact that I could buy a eeepc for $200, and then hack it up with a touch screen and make it like a tablet. (Like this: http://www.eeepc.it/wp-content/uploads/ ... c701-2.jpg)
4) Make a cheap NOAC portable. Seems easy. But, i'd rather not make a portable for the sake that, I always seem to fail them and that I dont want to be like a "normal" person on these forums.
5) Insert your idea here.
Thanks guys.

Re: Mod Ideas!
The DS idea is quite easy if you can solder. You just have to disconnect the cart slot in the DS from the mobo, therefore rendering your GBA port useless, and then solder all your button signals to a different pin on the cart, and on your filler thing, wire up wires corrosoponding to the button signals in the DS to the button signals in your NES.

Do this.2)Take a system and make a slimmed down version of it with a new case. I could do N64, or Dreamcast or something. Could be easy or hard and expensive. Depends on system, and case.

Re: Mod Ideas!
There's lots of extra space in the N64, especially if you made the power brick external (laptop style).
Otherwise, I'm doing the slim XBox mod - that seems fairly straightforward.

What is the convention?
If I wanted to show off my skillz, I would actually make a PS3 Boomerang controller. Then, show it to whoever these people are at the convention you want to impress, maybe you can convince a few of them it is real.

I saw a generic PS2 Boomerang controller for sale - might be prudent to start with that case and concentrate on getting the insides inside.palmertech wrote:If I wanted to show off my skillz, I would actually make a PS3 Boomerang controller. Re: Mod Ideas!
He already did that.
Actually, he just bought the controller, covered two holes, and called it a mod.
But I digress, back on topic. Or else, he will try to say that going off-topic is against the rules again, for the fourth time.

Re: Mod Ideas!
Believe what you want. But this topic is not about that subject. These anime and videogame fans are NOT into ps3 and 360.
Is there anyway I could make the DS controller removable? (Like in the video, the guy used the filler cartridge for the DS Lite to make it removable.) Could I use that filler adapter but mod it so it fits into the DS Phat?

Re: Mod Ideas!
You could use one *made* for the Phat
Or you could use a cheapo GBA game.

Re: Mod Ideas!
I'm possibly going to try the mod for the DS. Either that or the slimming of an n64.
Or possibly an n64 in a PS1(phat) case? In a Snes case? In a NES case? etc etc?

If you bring a whole gallon of PCP, you'd be the talk of the town

Re: Mod Ideas!
Or you could finish one of the 50 gizmillion ideas that you've already started. How about that "bestest-end-all-problems-save-humanity-invention" you were always bragging about.

Re: Mod Ideas!
Oh yeah! You should finish that prototype VR thing you were gonna make large quantities of, protected by a secret patent nobody is allowed to see, made under an exclusive contract with the second largest maker of LCD panels in China!
