Where can I find 26 pin .5mm Pitch FFC cable extension?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Where can I find 26 pin .5mm Pitch FFC cable extension?

Post by mike reezy »

I have some COBY portable DVD players (Coby TF-DVD7100) and I plan on making a projector amongst other things, but I need a ffc extension. The cable is 14mm Wide and has 26 pins = .53mm/pin (.5mm pitch?)

I am clueless as to where to order this from, I did a brief search on the forum, and looked through a ZIF/FFC guide posted here to no avail.

These DVD players are great, they play burned media +r and -r,MP3's, they have AV IN/OUT as well optical audio in/out
+ I was lucky as HECK (pun intended :) ) to score 2x fully working Units for $5 at the flea market. The guy said "I cant get the drive to spin" I dont know what his problem was, they both worked fine! Only have 1 power cable, but for $5 Im definitely not complaining.

Any help would be greatly apprecciated.

you can get some from several different places.

Nicomatic.com you can get free samples or you can get the cables. I have gotten a sample from them before. You tell them the specs of the FFC cable you need and they look through the extras they have from other orders to see if they have one that at least has the same number of pins and the width of each pin. They may email you afterwards though because if they don't have the exact length then they want to make sure that its alright that they send you one of X length instead.

Also do a quick search on google for FFC cables. There are several other places that can give free samples or you can buy from. I have noticed that on digi-key they have a section for FFC stuff but I haven't had to look at what they have so I don't know what they have.

There is also a website that sells stuff for DYI projectors and there is a post on these forums in the Sega Dreamcast forum that has a link but since they upgraded the forums I can't search for it since the search function only finds stuff posted after the upgrade. But do a little digging and I'm sure you can find what your looking for.

I have bought from DIY-beamer.com (they are in Europe so there is shipping but the Euro has come down against the US dollar recently)

and lumenlab.com sells FFC cables as well and they are in the US, but I haven't bought from there.

Neither seems to offer a 26 pin cable, but you can order a 30 pin and just cut the ends off so it fits in your connector. I got 12 inch long ones for my SEGA All-in-One PC project. They work to extend the GD drive and Controller board qite a way. And DIY-Beamer also sells an extender so you can buy a shorter one and then just add it to the one you already have.
