Sort of related:

Saw this on failblog - an article on the Daily Journal in Illinois. Some grumpy old guy rants about seemingly everything, then:

"To all you hunters who kill animals for food, shame on you; you ought to go to the store and buy the meat that was made there, where no animals were harmed."

Nice!

Sorry this is a bit late, but on the topic of the idea for a portable record player, my parents have a really small one from about 1960:

I'm pretty sure that's it, that wire leads off to a speaker which you put on top when you close the case. It runs off 4 D size batteries, if I remember. If you lay the lid down flat, it can play 33s, 45s or 78s, that's what the little knob at the front does.
Last time I saw it though, it only worked for about 2 minutes, because the belt inside had perished and dropped to bits, so we put an elastic band in as a temporary measure, but it stretched and slipped quickly. It was playing a 78 of the Toy Dolls version of Nellie the Elephant, which sounded quite strange as it got slower and slower as the band stretched
It's a shame really, it'd work perfect with a new belt on it. Not entirely sure where it's gone now though :?

Edit: For anyone who's never heard the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=louosVfcD8k :P

Also, on the topic of dumb things, I know someone who swears to me that their computer has no BIOS, because it doesn't show a splash screen when turned on.

I don't remember if I posted this, but I had a kid try to convince me that he pushed a gba game down into a gbc far enough and it played.

Actually Bourne used vodka in Supremacy- I think.

I have a huge bottle (like 1.5 litres) of rubbing alcohol (but most is gone now). I bought it to take the paper off of foamboard to build model airplanes, then I gave up on modeling and burned most of it, now I use it for cleaning games.

I got one for your amusement.

My older sister want nothing to do with electronics outside of a tv and pretty much is the opposite of myself. Whenever something technical comes up, she grabs the phone and rings me. Like our brother whose a mechanic, your cars acting funny call him first....

Anyhow a few years ago she shoots me this call asking me to look at her computer. I ask her whats wrong with it and she's like the thing that plugs in to the tower came loose.
ME:Okay, did you plug it in?
HER: Yes.
ME:Okay what connects to the wire?
HER:I think its the monitor.
ME:Okay. Whats the problem?
HER: the thing it connects to is loose...
Me: (Long pause) Okay so the graphics card?
Her: I think maybe the monitor card is loose.
ME: Okay you need to unscrew the housing there should be like 6-8 screws holding the case on.
HER: Okay I got the case open.
Me: NOw you have to simply push the graphics card back into the AGP slot.
HER:WHAT?
me: put the card thingy back into its home.
Her: (struggling) okay I think. okay.
me:It's reconnected?
her: Yeah, but now its making a weird noise...
me:what?
HER:the computer its spazzing or something.
me:Is your computer still on?
Her:yeah, why?
