Xbox/GC analog stick on DC controller?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Xbox/GC analog stick on DC controller?

Post by The Man From P.O.O.T »

I just got a DC recently, and I love it to death, but I don't find the standard hard-plastic control stick to be very comfortable to use. Is there any way to replace the analog stick on the DC with that from a GC or Xbox controller?

Well, I had heard that you can replace a PS2 controller's analog stick with an Xbox's stick, and vice-versa, since they both use potentiometers. However, I have also heard that the first party Dreamcast analog sticks use weird Hall-effect sensors, so it seems to me that you might have your work cut out for you if you intend to mod the official controllers. I believe that third-party controllers used normal potentiometers, so you might have better luck using a MadCatz or similar brand controller.

The above statement is correct. Since the original dreamcast controllers don't use pots you have to buy a third party controller that does.

It is not junk! It is assorted goods with no current use.

You guys are thinking too hard. The dreamcast has a plastic cap that goes on the joystick shaft, it is a stanard size. Just pop off the old, hard cap, and replace it with a shiny new xbox cap! I think a 360 one would look nice.... or a psone.

the dreamcast cap is smaller than most. most others wont fit in the hole in the faceplate.

Maybe a PS cap would be too big, but xbox and xbox 360 heads are pretty small.

You might have to extend the hole in the controller slightly. Standard stuff if you know what your doing.

Well since it's third party, you could most likely swap out the joystick pots.

reading this made me start thinking how cool it would be to just make a converter as I have larger hands and the DC controller is a failure with both the VMU units but just saying that Im sure it wont be able to do anything with it but perhaps cut one of the VMUs off the bottom.. too cramped and always have been in my opinion..

Rip the joystick grip out of a psone controller, drill out the hole in the joystick to accomodate, then push the joystick onto the pad, and re-assemble the controller. I did it, its not that trick, you just have to have the right sized drill, your joystick will spin but it will work.
