Joystick replacement problems on yobo controller

Post by Disco_Stu »

hi,

i'm new to this forums, but not new to the portable constructions. This is now my third N64p project an this time, i want to use an other analogstick. I've read the tutorial linked in the sticky and bought a Yobo controller, because I knew it uses pots.
Now I have a little problem on replacing the stick with a gamecube or playstation one. As you can see, the pots of the yobo controller are modified, so the have only two pins.

The gamecube stick uses the pots unmodified, so every pot has three connections.

I've absolutely no idea how to connect the gamecibe stick to this controller. I've already tried several combinations, but nothing realy works.

Here some pics of the controller pcb and the pot connectors:

Does anyone has an idea how to connect this?

The three connectors on a joystick are: ground, data (VCC), Horizontal; and on the other, ground, data (VCC), Vertical. If yours only have two pins on each side (4 not 6 in other words), I guess the missing two are grounds, which isn't a problem - if connecting to a GC joystick, you can easily wire up grounds to the other pins from the board after all.

I presume you highlighted the four contacts as they were the two from each of the two pins to the Yobo joystick? If that is the case, best way is to experiment, there are only a few combinations possible from 4 pins (12 to be exact, worst case scenario) before you get it right. Once you get horizontal working (or vertical), you only have two pins left to test!

exactly! I've noticed, that two of the contacts are connected to the ic an via a cap to ground. The other two are only connected to the ic (via resitors).

I'm getting a little frustrated now... I've added GND and tested every possible combination for the x-axis, and nothing worked:

Code: Select all

pot pins: O | O | O
               ---------------
combinations: GND | X | VCC
               GND | VCC | X
               VCC | X | GND
               VCC | GND | X
                X | VCC | GND
                X | GND | VCC

Only options then are to 1) search this forum for anyone else who used a Yobo; or 2) connect the original joysticks, check works, then wire your new joysticks directly to their contacts - dirty solution, but might make it work / easier to identify.

HI, I can help you.

That is how I did it. Do you still have the original joystick + board? You should be able to desolder the cstick and the other control stick and then just drop it right in.

So just solder the same pins on the gc stick together? I've tried it already and it doesn't worked... frustrating

now I've ordered a new controller, maybe this time...

I made a guide for this about a week ago, don't buy that controller just yet. I actually reattached it 3 times before it worked.

Here's my guide:
