PS3 power consumption

I was playing Burnout on my PS3 when I began to ponder....
Why the hell is it so much to ask for a laptop with batteries in it?
I figure 11.1v would be enough to run it, and you can get 6Ah/11.1v batteries for less than 100 bucks.
What gives?

It uses close to the same amount of power as higher end computers. They'll use 6ah in ~10 minutes.

PS3 uses about 200w in game. So the 66wh of those batteries could run it for a whopping 20 minutes.

I think the newer ones (new 80GB and 160GB models) are around 150, actually.

Probably because they assume the "laptop" part means it has built-in batteries, so when they don't have them, it's surprising.

Hot-plate-esque capabilities? I don't know how you've got your PS3 set up, but even when I've been running mine for hours, mine's always pretty much the same temperature as if it had been turned off for a week.

Somewhat concealed. I've got mine laying horizontally on a shelf with about six inches of space on on the right side (the side with the fan; I think that's the minimum) and about one inch between the other side and my PS2.

Also, I like the PS3 grill, but I honestly don't think it looks as much like a George Foreman grill as everyone says. I just don't see the resemblance.

Twilight Wolf, that's plenty of place for heat to dissipate. Mine is like 2 inches on each side, and it generates quite a bit of heat.
