Money

Post by Mediocre »

We all love it, what do you to get it.

I'll start, 8am-5pm office job, I work for a natural hazard disclosure company, it is a law in California we have to disclose hazards (earthquake, flood, fire... ect..) to potential buyers of property. I run the Subdivision department, I work on doing the reports for new tract homes, or newly subdivided land.

*Edit - Thats my day job, by night I'm a hired hit man.
If at first you don't succeed, try try to not screw up the second time.

I work freelance and "commission" as a programmer. Not necessarily a reliable source of income, but I'm hardly buying anything these days anyway. I plan to get a "real job" after/during my college years (which are at least the next four years).

2 simple ways.

Number 1, selling stuff.
Simple as that.
Other students happily overpay on the spot for anything they find cool.
Neat lighters/torches, DS Flash Carts, high-capacity memsticks (PSP, etc).
Items I can get for ~$2 and can sell for near $10.

Number 2, every once in awhile, if I'm lucky, this local place, (where 2 members of my family have worked for more than 20 years) will invite me over to fix such-n-such a problem with their computers.
Fairly small business, they higher an IT from an agency... Which hasn't worked out well...
So, when they can't get him over, I get a call, and they pay me what they pay him, $95/hr.
Sadly, only ONCE have I ever done anything that's taken over an hour :P
But man I'd LOVE to have that as a full-time job...

3 other writers and I run a buisness in our school where we write random stories and poems for people in our school and they pay us. It's not reliable because some people much rather get greeting cards and other stuff but this week I made enough cause of valentines day to hold me over for the next couple of weeks. It's decent for a kid my age though.

You mean that needed to take over an hour. Just work slower, they won't notice, you get paid.

My cash comes from doing odd jobs around the house and from things like birthdays and Christmas.

I've also made a decent amount from checking for forgotten change in vending machines and the like.

I work four hours every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at my local "mom and pop" pizza place. I don't have much of a weekend, but hey, I get paid and it prevents me from getting bored. Plus I eat for free.

I'm an unemployed traveler at the moment. I worked my ass off over the last summer to be able to afford it, but it was worth it.

I have a job at an IT company waiting for me when I get home.

Ah, so YOU are the reason DealExtreme keeps running out of DSTTs! I have the same job here.

My "real" job is maintenance on boats in a boat yard that is run by the City of Long Beach. Bad pay, but flexible, and not too hard.

I also fix computers, mod consoles, and used to do freelance writing as a tech person for a few local papers/magazines.

I'm the reason they run out of 1 gig MicroSD cards and Torch Lighters!

Also, DX isn't the only place I get my stuff.
It's where I get quite a bit, but not all.

I'm starting up on dealing classic consoles. Other than that, allowance, leftover lunch money, special occasions. I almost got a paper route but anyone who knows me knows I'm too lazy.

I make my money selling stuff on ebay and here (if anybody on these forums would buy my stuff that is!) and hopefully soon by finishing some of my portables and other projects. before that i worked at the meat department of a local grocery store (9$ an hour 16-33 hours a week) and a radioshack (horrible pay and hours) currently technically unemployed but that means a lot of time to dedicate to portables! and lots of unfinished stuff to do :D
