N64 latop and a few other scenarios

Post by ninjamonkey »

OK, so I'm going to start or try to start making a n64 laptop. Problems involved with that:
no soldering ability (haven't even tried)
no wiring ability
I do have an Idea of how it would look; i just need to draw it up.

I plan on using a joytech 8" PS2 screen. I plan to make the case from metal which I think i have come up with a way to do. So if anyone can help me it would be appreciated.

Also, I have 2 other questions/ scenarios: everyone here probably knows how the wii and the xbox 360 and all those sytems work and how you can play online with them. Well I was wondering, would it be possible to make an n64 online playable. Like say you have a multiplayer game and your not with a group of people, would it be possible to play the same game with that person without them being in the room.

Next, you guys know how people hack the systems to run roms of a game that usually runs off a cd/ dvd on a system, and ds flash carts and all that good stuff. Would it be possible to make an n64 flash cart? it would be sick, i would be like simplier verison of the vdoctor 64

I think I can firmly say that N64 has no possible method of online play.

No realistic method, I must say.
Oh, it could be done...
What an abomination it'd be...

Or adding netplay to a gameboy color...
Oh dear.
I should do that.

Eh, I don't like dealing with cases.

As for the flashcart thing, it IS doable.
It can be done.
Hell, look at what Marshallh is doing :P
But I don't expect one any time soon.

I'd advise you not to use Joytech screens, they're really big, power hungry and have a nasty looking image.

Practice soldering and desoldering on old circuit boards you don't care about before you try the N64.

The old Sharkwire kit doesn't let you PLAY online.

It just let you go on to a small list of low-quality websites...
Oh, and you could send email. To other people with SharkWire kits...

The only way to actually PLAY online was RANDnet.
Only in Japan of course.
And of course, no longer operating.

With some fancy microcontrollers and programming, you could KINDA SORTA do online play, but the other people would need a special client. Like this:

You'd get nice widescreen :D . But it would be low-res :( . In any case, this requires high speed internet, fast encoding, and it would still be laggy.

I guess in some ways the internet is like a giant static dust-storm... lol.

And yeah that's what I meant... no reasonable online play, without creating your own client (and possibly server? idk).

ok, so yea i scratched this idea and came up with one thats much simlpier..

I was looking online to find a way to connect a system a laptop. I found a few video capture devices which would work.

My plan is to make gaming laptop and package it together with an n64. Yes, I know "whats the point of hooking an n64 to a laptop when there are emulators?". Thing is this would combine both worlds, system and laptop. so you could play the n64 one minute, then play like coutner stirke or goldeneye source another minute. You could even, get an n64 emulator that plays online for those times no one around and you dont want to play the n64 by yourself.

I guess that's what bursts out of the tubes when something get's dumped in the tubes.
