Loading Wii games from a HDD... YOU CAN HAZ IT!

Browsing through ebay, I found this:

I downloaded the manual, and it appears to stream games using XP/Vista! Now, you may think this is useless for a portable...But behold!

Yes, I know the Pico-ITX boards are smaller, but I have a Nano-ITX! It is entirely possible to fit the whole thing into the size of a wii DVD drive, use a VGA to composite adapter, then use a switch on the serial to automaticall switch to the wii output when it has loaded the disc.

Thoughts?

There's another attachment out there now that loads directly from a Sata drive, no computer needed.

Well, looks plausible (albeit costly).

Also, running a Windows environment on composite will look like crap. Last time I tried it my eyes hurt. Of course that was 800x600 downscaled to 480i.

Who cares how pretty that aspect of it is? All it really needs to be is a menu or something.

using a small computer in a portable is really going to add size and power draw. you'll be better off using DVDs (or waiting for a real HDD adaptor)

I was not planning on using this for a portable, but now I can get a wii with a broken disc drive on enay for about $90-100. Add this, and I have a wii!

There, what is what I said in the AIM chat, I found the log. Seriously, all I do is a friendly notice, and you got all defensive automatically.

Hard to believe that you forgot this chat in less than 12 hours time.

I think I will make a game frontend, where I can select one of the games on my hard drive, then when I select it, it launches a script that goes through all the right motions to launch it, then switches the video output to the wii.
