NEStop changed to normal NESp (Real Picture)

Hey! I'm making a portable, NES to be exact. I've created a picture for it, to show people what it looks like.

I really liked the prototype Nintendo DS, so thats where I got the colors from, (look it up on Google images, you'll find it). Also, I dont think I'm gonna put internal power in it. I'm just going to have it run off the wall. Just a few questions though.

1. What types of plastic should I use for it? Like, is there places I could get sheets of plastic? Also, what kind of paint should I use?

2. I was thinking about just using my Retro Duo, and just taking out the SNOAC. But would that even be possible? Is there any way I could just use the NES part of it? If not, i'll just buy a new one.

EDIT: I realized that making a laptop is just way too complicated. I got my NES clone in the mail today and already opened it up. I also cracked open my screen too. Kind of weird screen but whatever. I noticed I had a Boggle box in my closet. So I was like, hmm this could possibly worked. I put everything in there and it fits perfecto!! I already cut out the spot for the screen and I just ended up using the yobo controller because I'm broke and cant afford another controller (like in in debt with my parents =P ) So heres a pic of my progress:

nice idea. I cant answer any of your 2 questions but i have a query. Whats your thinking behind putting the a and b buttons at an angle. I notice quite a lot of people do this.

Is it not better to keep them in a straight line so that it feels more like an original pad when playing? (Just my opinion)

You know, I've got an idea of why they're positioned like that... I'll try to explain.

Hold your hand out in front of you, palm facing down, and move your thumb up and down. Now position your hand so it's like you're holding a controller, and make the same motions. You can see your thumb motion makes kind of an arc; thus, placing the buttons on an angle makes them more comfortable to use.

Anyways, this is quite a cool idea, VV! If it's gonna be laptop-sized, you should consider throwing the guts of an NES Advantage in there, minus the joystick, of course.

Yeah i get that its prob more comfortable, but is it not better that it feels like the original - square and not particuarly comfortable at times? or is that just me? each to their own and all that..

It all comes down to personal preference. If you like the uncomfortable-at-times design of a given controller, you're totally free to design your portable that way. Personally, though, if a given controller felt uncomfortable to me, I'd take the opportunity portabilizing presents to design a new control layout. If the controller was comfortable, however, I'd like to keep that design.

Portables are very personalized, so you can implement whatever design you think would give you the most enjoyment.

Yeah i hear you. Like you say its down to the individual etc.

Personally my perfect portable would have an original controller in it as i quite like the layout and feel of the original. But i can understand why people would prefer a more modern button layout.

Cardboard isn't the best case material for obvious reasons.

If you want a super cheap plastic case, just look for an old, sturdy pencil box.

Cardboard has pretty much no structural integrity. Pick it up, see how easy it is to squeeze in your hands? That's not a good thing.

But my PS2 Laptop is made of cardboard, it is fine, and reinforced
