A lil' help here?

Post by nos_slived »

Hey guys(and Ladyada :D ),

Couple of questions here. First off, I was reading SpongeBuell's report on the multi-out on the SNES/N64/GCN(http://www.doomportables.org/video.php).
1. Has anyone ever confirmed the pins of this?
2. I was reading and for ground it says pins 4 and 10, then for +5V it says pin 10. So is pin 10 Voltage or Ground?
3. Did Nintendo design other plugs to go in here for other video outs like(S-Video), or were those just wasted pins, because I doubt that they put those there for illegal mods  .

Also, I have decided to use the GC screen(sorry, can't find any pics) as opposed to the PS1. The main reason that I chose this one is that it is cheaper for me. Has anyone else ever used this one? Was it the one built onto the controller, or was it the one that you attach to the GC? If it was the one on the controller, was it easy to detach, and did it cause any problems to the controller it's self? Any pics would be appreciated.

Pin Name Description
1 R Red (not available on N64)
2 G Green (not available on N64)
3 CSYNC Composite Sync (not available on N64)
4 B Blue (not available on N64)
5 GND Ground
6 GND Ground
7 Y S-Video Y (luma) (not on SNES2)
8 C S-Video C (chroma) (not on SNES2)
9 CVBS Composite Video (NTSC)
10 +5V +5 VDC
11 L+R Left+Right Audio (Mono)
12 L-R Left-Right Audio (Used to calculate Stereo)

Nintendo used a plug with all three systems and just used the pins needed.

You can get a $30 PS1 screen brand new at KB toys if you can find one. I would highly recomend the PS1 screen as the GC screen requires higher voltage and loses pixels.

Before you start I would recomend you thouroughly read these forums and possibly Ben's book.

The screens on the controllers are called Hip Gear Screens, they're 2.6". What it seems your talking about is the 5" GameCube screen. Yes the screen is considered cheaper but many people have complined about it being of poor quality and loosing pixels.

As for seperating the screen from the controller there is a thread about it, do a search.

No, I'm talking about the one built on the screen. I'm not going to spend $200 on the 5" screen.

Ahhh the GameCube 5" screens were never $200, at most they're $100 though I'm sure they've dropped and so can find them for maybe $50 or less like the PSone.

I'm talking Canadian. I was on the Future Shop site yesterday, and the InTec 's were $199. Used to be even more though.

Sorry, but I could never get used to metric and dollars that are worth less. It does sound cool to drive 100 and not be speeding though
