congrats on the ipod

as for the music working, if by albums, you mean CDs, yes, they should work fine in iTunes. pop them in, import, put them on the iPod.
if you meant tape or LP, you'll need to convert them first (obviously)
if you meant you bought them from another online store besides itunes, you'll need to do a little workaround, but you can get them to work.

actually, you can use it only though iTunes. There is one thing I absolutely DESPISE about the iPod: you can't really take songs from the iPod to your computer, and if you do a standard sync it deletes the songs that are not on the library on your computer :x

there's a winamp plugin, ya know....

it's the very thing I'm planning on using so that I don't have to use itunes. although there IS something annoying about not being able to just drag n' drop(one of the few advantages of my lyra AV jukebox. not enough to make me want to keep it, though.)

if you don't know by now how to get songs from the ipod onto your computer or how to use your ipod with things besides itunes (though why would you want to?), you don't deserve an ipod. ever.

because winamp is roughly equal with itunes(NOTE: I am of the opinion that winamp is a thousand times better due to plugins, but out of the installation EXE both are about equal.).

you can, but if you just drop mp3s on there the ipod won't recognize them. you need to run it through an ipod-compatible program, like itunes or winamp+plugin. a minor annoyance at best, considering most people will transfer through their media player anyways(I certainly know I do.)

I know that you can look at it through Windows Explorer, but your average Joe is going to use iTunes. When using a Mac I don't think you can do it at all :(
