Game Frontends

Post by NesScotland »

I am currently in the process of converting my nes controller to USB and while i am at it i am adding a hub and a 2gb flash drive which will hold the emulator and all the games.

Im looking for a game frontend that i can put on the flash drive so that no matter what PC i plug the nes controller into it will autorun and pop up with a list of the games so i can scroll through them and then launch them.

I currently use GAMEX but cant see how that would work on a removable drive as it installs files into the "program files" directory.

I am basically producing a version of this - http://edshowtos.blogspot.com/2008/06/h ... oller.html and i am looking for a frontend similar to the one he uses in the small video.

Any help / Advice is appreciated.

here's some alternatives I know of which may be nicer for you:

www.retrousb.com

they sell kits

and
http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/sne ... dex_en.php

with this you can actually connect up to 4 NES controllers to one USB port!

Kyo, thanks for the reply.

I am using a retrokit from retrousb to convert the controller. That bits sorted.

What im trying to find out is what game frontend i can use on a flash drive as gamex is not portable. I want to be able to plug it into any PC and the game frontend to load listing all the roms.

so it would be sorta like an autorun thing? I know that CDs can do this on windows, I don't know about usb drives, but you might want to give that a try.

I believe they use autorun.inf files to autostart apps.

Yeah just a simple windows notepad file saved as autorun.bat which will have the exe file name in it to run.

Just trying to source the programme. Need a portable emulator frontend.

Cant get Gameex to work portable.

You can do that with RockNesx, I made autorun.inf for this emulator to start but you will still be prompted like when inserting a cd.The games load automaticaly from USB drive and you can see the list of all games, you just need to put zipped roms inside ``roms`` folder. Extract attached file to root of your USB flash drive.... enjoy

I did something similar here http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?t=18094

Maybe there's some helpful info there for you.

I really like the idea of an emulator built into a controller, good luck!
