Laptop

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Laptop

Ok, I'm sure this has been posted, but I couldn't find it...sorry. But would I be able to use a laptop screen, or a laptop, to build my portable? I have a lot of bulky laptops with a bunch of room inside, and i want to scrape it out, and put a portable inside...Will the screen ever work?

so in other words, that would be really hard, especially for a first portable, and that I should just ditch the idea?

yeah. Some older laptops may have a controller board, but it's still going to be pretty hard to figure out what goes where :)

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

W-w-wait! Just get an emulator, put it on the laptop, get a controller, and your good to go. Unless you only have the screen, then good luck to ya.

Well....me and my dad ripped it apart anyways  it was a piece of crap though...it had 16mb on the hardrive, and that was full memory... it was made in like 1985 lol or atleast thats what the label said.
Anyways...has anyone ever used a laptop screen before for a portable, no matter how hard it was? and if someone did, is there a site that says how to do it? so far we only have the ground wire identified...If you have any info, please help, thanks...

and there wasn't enough room on the hardrive for an emulator anyways :?

Based on the other two or three threads on this same exact question, its be the size of a cadillac. The laptop screen takes a different type of picture than what a game system puts out, so, you need a converter, which is big and pointless and stupid. Youre better off with a 7" gamescreen. Aside from that, if the thing was made in '85, I'd doubt it's very power-efficient, old things tend to suck a lot of power.
