Reset XBox HD to factory settings?

Post by Edutainment »

Hey dudes. I haven't been here for a while. I've been busy and whatnot.

Anyway, yesterday I softmodded my Xbox (not 360) to put Xbox Media Center on it by hotswapping the harddrive. I used this guide: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to- ... .for-FREE/ and it worked. I put XBMC on the drive and it worked too. Then I tried to make XBMC the default dashboard, but while I was trying to make a backup of the current dashboard's (unleashX) shortcut, Xplorer260 (allows me to explore Xbox HD) had some sort of error (I forgot what it said) and froze. When I opened it again, there was an error about finding the partion or something, and it appears that Partition 4 is gone (where stuff like soundtracks, and apps are stored).

So what I want to do is restore my XBox hard drive to factory settings so I can go through the process again, this time making a backup before I mess around.

Anybody know how to do this? Can I get a backup of someones hard drive and put it on the HD with Xplorer360 or something like that? Or something...

Thanks,
Edu.

Does the xbox still boot? Did you backup the hard drive before the softmod?

No, I didn't back it up. The Ndure installer made a backup of the C drive but I think it saved the backup on the drive (that makes no sense?), so that may have been deleted. At first it would show the green blob Xbox splash screen, then go to a plain black screen, because Unleash X was the default dashboard and I guess it was deleted, so in Xplorer360 I put the MS dash back as the default dashboard. Now it boots up, but it tells me the XBox needs service if I try to play a game. It also says I've reached the max. 100 soundtracks if I try to make a soundtrack, even though there's nothing in there.

fixing your xbox

Don't use xplorer 360 to do it via windows. It's a pain in the ass since FATX and NTFS/FAT/ETC aren't very good at seeing eye to eye.

From the info you provided it seems like you are able to unlock your xbox HDD which is good, very good. You have a chance at saving your box.

You can do one of two things I can think of that might save your box. First is install NDURE all over again. You should still have the boot disk to do so. This will likely work.

Alternatively, you can make a new disc and get retail xbox files. There are a few torrents out there (Slayers is what you are looking for) that include the RETAIL xbox files.

What is the error number that your XBOX is giving you when you boot up? That could help to.

Finally, as a long shot, try opening your dvd drive and pulling the power plug. Plug it back in and boot the xbox and make sure that the tray is open. If the softmod is still partially functional it will take you into the unmodded C drive, not the shadow c drive that is listed in your screen shot.

Double finally if you are able to get into your drive, look high and low for the EEPROM file. If you can get that, you can do a lot of damage to your HDD without worry. The EEPROM is all that you need to create a new hard drive from scratch, even getting a bigger one to replace the one that you have.
