Does anyone know what's holding these fans in Ben's third case? Hot glue? JB Weld? bracket of some sort? and connected to what?
And on the base plate, what's the reason for the venting under the hard drive and processor? Just vent for incoming air? Or is there another reason?
Thanks for any help!
He probably used JB Weld or superglue to hold them in. They are probably tied into a 5v source once the 360 turns on. The hard drive, cpu and gpu output a fair bit of heat into the motherboard. So, he probably put them there just as an precaution (also there is plenty of room for the air to come rushing in and around the motherboard. But, those are just my guesses.
The fans are held by hot glue. JB weld would be a terrible thing to use since it's permanent. They are connected to any 12V source on the 360's motherboard or the 12V line that goes to the monitor. Ben said the vents on the bottom are probably more for show than function, but I'm sure they help air move more freely.

Another noobie question. I've read in various forums that power should not be stolen from the DVD to power fans. Specifically, they were talking about the XCM Core Cooler. ( http://www.xcm.cc/xcm_add-on_fan_instal ... iagram.htm )
What's the difference between splicing power from the DVD power cable and soldering to the 12v connection on the MoBo below the DVD power plug?

There is no difference between these two. They both take power from the dvd drive in the same way. You're probably better off taking power from another source (especially since the dvd's power source is hard to get to anyway).
