their much less likely to die, of course there is always some risk with any situation that the person could die, you defend yourself with a bat you could accidently paralize them or kill them if you hit them in the head. im not saying that every situation can be dealt with with a gun but in a situation where there is a possibilty that if you dont shoot the person to disable them they could shoot you or attack you in another way (home invasion, robery, assualt etc) shooting to disable (always with the possibilty of killing the person, weigh the risks) is the best course of action. its about minimizing risk to oneself, yes your more likely to kill somebody with a gun than your bare hands or a blunt weapon but your also A LOT less likely to be injured or killed yourself when your armed and across the room from the person who is a potential threat to yourself

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but, I've fired a couple of .22 rim fire rifles. They're pretty nice. They belonged to a friend and his father. Both of them used their .22s for hunting deer. So this would be a good choice for a starter rifle.
I can't really give you more specifics then the fact they were .22, rim fire and held 12 rounds. I'm not a hunting person and not as into guns as say Triton is.
If you want, next time I talk to my friend I can ask him about it. Otherwise I'd say ask people if they hunt or know anyone who does. They'd be able to tell you the best starter rifle/shotgun that will give you the best bang for your buck. And really for crying out load you by Ortonville, last I checked, that's close to country. Finding someone there who hunts shouldn't be hard at all.
