Hey I have a old genesis 3 sitting around and I thought maybe I could make it portable.
Can anybody give me any advice at what tools i need, how i should practice so i don't ruin the genesis and simple guides.

I don't have any experience in this either but just search for a guide using the genesis model 3. But from what i've read the genesis 3 is one of the best to start with for newbies.

tools you will need are a 15 to 30 watt soldering iron, rosin core solder, a compatable screen (zenith xbox screens and sony ps1 screens are very common),a good li-poly or ni-mh battery

Cause I don't, that's why you don't see any new daguuy post. I have found better ways to waste my time

YES, what a better way to come back to the site, than give some help? If I can say, I recommend you DONT use your Genesis 3. If you want to make your first portable, do a Genesis, but not a 3, it's semi rare, and a darn shame if it may break. You can buy a quick Genesis 2 from Ebay, and that in my opinnion is the best system to portabalize for a Genesis. OK, things you will need, a soldering iron, an LCD screen with RCA inputs (the yellow red and white plugs), the system (duh), wire, and a power source, and other misc stuff. Basically a portable comes down to wiring up a system to a screen and making it run off a battery and putting it all in a case hoping to whatever deity you do or don't believe in making it work. First, unscrew the system, and get the motherboard out. Look for diagrams around the forum which tell you what each 'pin' on the jacks do, as in which one is power in and which one is ground. Look for the composite video and audio pins and the ground for that jack. A good battery to pick is a 7.2 V RC Car battery. It's easily rechargeable and removable, and Radio Shack sells separate connectors that you can adapt to the power jack to put in as a power source. OK,OK. So wire up the video and audio pins to the input pins on the LCD screen. Then hookup the power inputs from the system and the LCD screen to a switch, and then hook up a battery to the switch. Put it all in a case and then get a controller and hook it up and then you're good to go. Of course all that I typed is just a general overview, but if you ever need more specific instructions or help, post in this thread, PM ME, or even better, add me on Face Book (Anjan Saha, member of the Stuyvesant High School 2011 network and New York, NY), and I can get to you even faster. Good luck!

You are forgiven that you are a noob. However, I'm a noob too, so I really shouln't be talking.
Oh, and good luck. I used to have a 2nd Generation Genesis, and I know how fricken huge they are. I'm guessing the 3rd Generation is smaller (I've never seen one), but still; may the Force be with you...

Genesis 2 is pretty big but we aren't talking like NES or Atari 5200 size, and yeah Genesis 3 is tiny, but kinda rare these days, i'd rip it apart if I had two though...
