Anybody here good with Photoshop?

Post by blackbox_dev »

I have a photo (well, actually two spliced together) of my band and I want the background removed so that only the people and instruments being held remain. As you can notice, I've already placed a microphone into the singers hand where a soda can was previously. :P

Image
(it's probably fairly obvious, but i'm the guitarist)

Does anybody want to help? The photo will be going on our MySpace profile, and we'll give you credit.

Ya. Can you hold off until tomorrow afternoon? I'll be able to get it done. Can't tell from here but is that a fender? The head stock looks a bit like a knock off/ibanez?. cant really tell.

Ya, that'll be fine. And it's a MIM Fender. :)

Do you live in ohio?

because the letters on that stand are the same as the initials for my school.

I'm a god at photoshop! Nah.. I'm good but also too busy though ;(
But what I can do is give you a few pointers and a quick walktrough.

1. Always work in layers when manipulating (makes it esier to redo stuff later)

2. Make a copy of original image as a new layer.

3. Add mic as a separate layer on top and either:
a) Make a path around it and erase everything around it.
b) Mask everything out around it.

You can hide the mic layer for now..

4. Go back to the copy of your background image and use clone stamp to clone over the can with the wall behind it.
Make it look as natural as you can.

You should now have a empty hand.

5. Go back to mic layer, place it over the hand and then either:
a) Lower the opacity of the layer so you can see through, revealing the hand underneath.
Then erase the mic where you can see his hand. Set back opacity to 100%.
b) Make mask layer and mask out the mic where hand should be.

Done!

EDIT: Um, by the way. How about taking a new group photo? :)

o. That what I'm playing too. They play great. What kinda set-up are you running? btw. I'll be able to get the picture done in a few minutes.

EDIT: Here you go. I did one with just the background removed, then one where I moved your bass player closer. I could do a background too if you want. I just realized there is some black left near the bass player. (in his arm) If you want it gone, just tell me.

I think the second one looks great! Thanks a lot. I'm going to edit just a little more, and then I'll give a link to the final photo.

Thanks, again. :)
