Yes, plug'n'play systems - some use small boards, some larger. The small ones I have found (so far) are the two Namco ones (Galaga, etc) and the (Galaxians, etc) one - also the one with 5 Pacman games. The CapCom one is about 50% larger and Intellivision ones about 4x larger.

The boards I mentioned are about 67mm x 38mm or thereabouts. Small.

Smallest board (original hardware) that is later than Snes, are Psone boards.

Even smaller than the psone mobo is the newer SCPH-7900X model PSTwo mobos. They only take up slightly more than half of the slim ps2 case. Unfortunately they are out of production now due to the release of the larger SCPH-9000X series with an internalized AC power supply, so they are hard to find.

I would have to say the PSOne, N64, and The GC all have pretty small mobo's. Just with the GC you have to deal with the disk drive..

The N64 board is about the same size as the PSone board, interestingly.

Given the choice between either, I would choose the PSone board just because the N64 board will fry if you look at it wrong.
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

N64's aren't that bad!

The N64 is cartridge based so easy to portablize. The PSone is easy enough, but the hard part is integrating the CD drive into a case...
