RIP Toonami 1997-2008

Post by Triton »

Lets all bow our heads in remembrance and the passing of an era, the broadcast known as toonami is no more as of september 20th 2008  it kinda sucked in recent years but im sure many of you have fond memories of seeing some of the best shows ever put on tv on toonami! its (indirectly) because of toonami that i have the name i do online and it was my first exposure to anime and some of the better examples of western animation (batman animated series, samurai jack, REBOOT among others)

It is truly the end of an era! the last bastion of good animation for people ages 10-18 is no more! now all we have for anime is adult swim (which is also gone downhill imo)

please share your memories and opinions about the death of toonami in this thread

Goodnight sweet prince (1997-2008)

Wow. I was already in a foul mood, and this is genuinely depressing. Toonami was a huge part of my life as a kid, almost as big as my Super Nintendo or Fox News. Aside from Saturday morning cartoons, TMNT, and the Power Rangers, Toonami was what occupied a lot of my time. DBZ, Ruruoni Kenshin, all the Gundam iterations, Batman, I loved 'em all. I even remember, once they took Zoids off, I woke up at 6:00 every morning just to watch it, even though school didn't start until 9:00.

Rest in peace, Toonami, it's a shame you had to die in such a gruesome fashion...

nah, they would only ruin it. it started going downhill dramatically in 2004 anyway. best to remember the golden years of toonami, from 1998 to 2003/4

for a bit of nostalgia hit up the Toonami Digital Arsenal they have videos and mp3s and all kinds of cool stuff

i used to love toonami and watch dbz, cowboy bebop, gundam wing, and others religiously until we got rid of our cable. Even though i haven't seen it in recent years (2002+) i will still miss it.

Well then it's official. Cartoon Network has no idea what they're doing anymore.
If you're looking at this post and it was made before 2008, just ignore it.

I remember when I was in Elementary school that I would come home from school and watch Dragonball Z (Cell Saga anyone?). That was when Toonami was on in the late afternoon and still had beastly shows.

Yu Yu Hakusho, Megas XLR, Cowboy Bebop, Zoids, and Samurai Jack were also shows I used to watch as a kid.

Nowadays I watch a lot of Adult Swim, mainly just for Shin Chan and ATHF.

While I'd love to join you all in morning, I gave up and considered Toonami dead years ago. When they stopped running anime completely I considered it over and done.

I really did love it when they ran all those anime series. It helped show me some nice series that were out there, even though they didn't have a terribly great selection, for the time it was good.

Guess we can only that they make a second incarnation that is better.
