you're the one with a gba sp screen! Just look at it! There are two silver strips, which I would imagine light comes out from...I'll get a picture but not now..I have to find my broken GBA first...

Well, the reason I ask is because that does not sound like a normal GBA SP screen, it sounds like onw without the backlight.

You might have to wait a few extra hours, gotta escort my sister somewhere.

Normal GBa Sps are without the backlight, regular ones are front lit...

Now your're confusing yourself and maybe other people.

The GBA SP screen comes in two parts (At least on mine). There is the silver lined part you talk about, and a black frame holding the light panel on top of it. I meant to say frontlight, woops.

What I mean was: What you described sounds like a GBA SP screen WITHOUT the frontlight panel. Maybe you took it apart too far?

I should finally have those pics in a few hours.

Nope...I just cracked open the case and that was it...unless you can open up the lcd more I don't see any leds. I only see two little silver strips on the pcb, that's it.

Is this an SP, or an original? I assume SP... Have you tried powering it on with the screen bare?

There are two SPs. The first one was frontlit and could be turned off. Then they came out with the brighter one, which is backlit and has two brightness levels but can't be turned completely off.

I have three front lit ones, one screen is trashed it got cracked...I was going to resuse the leds in the screen but there are no leds...that's what I'm rtying to explain...so that's why I'm confused about how he's frontlighting his regular GBA, If sps, have no leds to take from, and reusing the screens don't work! If they did I would of bought a screen already for half price.

I remember in my sp, the frontlight consisted of a single SMT Led, and it shined into a screen-cover-type-thing that spread out the light. And, I fried the led trying to run it off of two double aa's :P

The idea: Completely possible, and without a doubt, doable on a gba.

I'd like to see some pics so I know what it looks like actually done! :D

There, now GTFO Dr. Killgood!

I am going to try a ds front light next, considering how much better than the GBA SP one is, I might have the best looking GBA on the planet! ;)

Questions?

Sorry, but why do you want a front-lit GBA with the SP backlight? I can't figure out the meaning behind this, probably because to me, it seems like a "because I can" mod...
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

Several:

Because I can.

Because the GBA is more ergonomic.

Because the GBA uses button membranes, not tact switches. More comfortable.

Brighter than an SP with the higher voltage.

Because the GBA is more comfortable to hold of course! 8)

I just had an idea. It is possible to backlight TI calculators. So why not use the backlights from DS lites and the newer SPs? Anyone taken apart one of those screens and seen if the backlight can be removed from the LCD?
