Moving volume and brightness buttons and wiring

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Moving volume and brightness buttons and wiring

Post by nuky nuclear »

I was wondering how easy it is to move the volume and screen brightness buttons on my zenith screen and if any type of push button would work for it. also i know this is off topic but i am going to connect the wires for video and audio to the screen and i noticed that there are 4 wires i need to connect on the screen. the black which is the ground, the yellow which is video and then the red and white for audio. now do i need to connect both audio wires for 1 speaker and where does the ground connect to because i noticed that in the book it doesnt show where to connect it to.

Use a normally open button for the volume and contrast buttons, but yeah- any should work.

I would suggest connecting both left and right audio, but it's up to you if you connect one, both, or neither. You've also got to supply power by the way- that's another wire you need to hook up. ;)

As far as where ground goes, there is a sticky in the video hacking section place thingie that has the pinout, including RGB (I think).

i got the power hooked up. in the book the diagram doesnt show the ground http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2 ... 803,00.asp . and sense im just using 1 speaker i dont think i need to have left and right audio. mono audio should work for that. same goes for when i do the audio/video out port i dont think i need excellent sound from the tv, plus its rare that i will hook it up to the tv.

also how would i wire in the new buttons for the screen? do i remove the old ones and if so how?

You LED modded it right? If you did, you should just leave it all the up. It won't make much of a difference on the battery life. If not, you should leave the buttons on it, if you're playing in a well lit room, maxed brightness is a little too much.

Also, you can just desolder the buttons and solder new wires to both the buttons and the board. It's easier to remove the screen before doing that, gives you a lot more room.

As long as the backlight is grounded somewhere, it's fine.

If it says it's ground, then it's ground and it'll work fine.
