The old old wiki was sooo good. The new one just wasn't the same. Interest was far too low. A lot of people didnt really understand how a wiki worked.

What the wiki needs is a forum thread which picks a new page every week to work on, and then gets people to actually do it. If its out of sight, no one will bother.

But yeah, this randomly add a sentence every week to some random page strategy is not as effective. we need concentrated effort.

+1 for that. Sounds like a really good idea. Everyweek one of the head moderators will pick a new page to work on, and everyone will look around the forums and add info they know of. We also need to get a Uniform Design Layout for each page, and a list of all the tags that we need. (I remember the newer wiki, we all had problems uploading pictures at first)

Yeah, please revive it, I sort of took it upon myself to put all the NOAC info in there, but I never finished it, and forgot about it  Standardizing everything would really help, I'm willing to help in any way I can.

Really the problem we had with it before was there wasn't much interest in working on pages. I hope that we have enough interest in it this time that we can get a good resource for any and all information we might need.

I totally agree with you. That plus a writing standard and the wiki might be way better than before.

@JK0-K6: Nice to see you back on the forum. :)

I think one problem with the old wikis was that some members were not familiar with how to use write one. Maybe a thread could be stickied explaining how the process works would be in order.

I really like the idea of a collaboration thread in the forums to focus effort in the wiki.

Yo JKO-K6, long time no see. :P

Anyways, to tell you the truth, I didn't even realize the wiki was gone, but that's just because I get all my info from here and PoD, simply because I always found it poorly organized and fairly lackluster. But I'd agree that if we were to reactivate it, we really need to standardize things and make it a community effort. It'd be quite the dig through all the information we've got in threads, stickies, PoD, etc., but the end result would be a great foundation that could constantly be added to.

So yeah, I vote reactivate.

The main focus on the wiki should be consistency. When it was up before, it wasn't very organized and was more or less a copy/paste hack job. :(

Also, we should see about using Skyone's diagram format because it's easy to read and even MS Paint can make good looking diagrams with it. (All saved as .PNG because JPEG murders pixel art.)

Example:

We should settle on some formatting standards before we get in there and dump information all over the place. :P

How about this?

We make a thread in the Development Center forum.
Here we can discuss the topics we want to work on next.
We have a group of people who will take the information that is discussed and put it in the wiki.

This should help maintain consistency, keep everyone on the same page, ensure what information needs to be included, and what topics are most relevant.

Sounds like a plan.

I think we should put the most commonly needed information in the sidebar for screens and consoles. (Power needs, difficulty, etc.) Here's a mockup for the NES:

That sounds like a good idea, Bic, but what about clones? There's way more NOAC portables than there are original NES, and these SuperFC clones/Genesis clones are becoming widely portablized. I say we take the most common clones and throw them in the side bar, too. :P

Or, instead of that, if it has clones, we could hyperlink the yes, and bring it to a page that has ALL clones for all the systems, (but it goes to whatever clone system you chose). That way, people can see the list of all clones at once.

Quick poll, how many people actually go to the "development center". I dont.

I say put in F42 and replace the "where to post" sticky with it. Or maybe the Youtube thread.

As far as clones are concerned we should have one page for clones of each system. I understand that each clone might have it's only neat little details or features, but the fact still remains that they are all clones, and all have the same basic design and purpose.

It might take two entries for things like the Retro Twin, but oh well. We could simply have the NES portion with a link in parenthesis going to the Genesis, and vice versa.

As for basic info I'm going with what Bic put up.
