so i think i really fried it this time...
i was working a bit on my next project between coats of paint on my current project. so, i decided to hook up my super joy iii, screen, and batteries. i made sure all the connections were correct. and i hooked it all up to 4 aa's. and as soon as i hooked it all up, i saw smoke coming from my sjiii... why...? why is this happening to me? it's meant to run off of 4 aa's, right? that's what everyone uses to power them! and, no, i did not cross the positive and negative! my screen still appears to work (at least, it powers on... haven't tested to see if it still really works or not).
any clues as to why this might have happened...?

umm... the system is made to run off of 4 aa batteries.Aurora A14 wrote:Is the SJIII meant to run off 6 volts?
I'm assuming it's meant to run off of 5, and needs a 7805. I've not looked into NOACs, so I dunno...
see that box setting at the top? that's for the 4 aa batteries. i hooked it up just like it's supposed to be.
see this step by step tutorial? 4 aa's.
i wired it up just like Life of Brian did for his fugtendo
so, yes, it is meant to run off 6 volts.

Hmm... Just a suggestion.
According to the Game Grrl page, it says about 5 volts some place, 6 volts others...
Did the batteries run through a regulator or something similar? I have a feeling the SJ3 might be actually designed to run off of 5, or something...
But much more likely than a technical oversight? - did you accidentally solder together 2 spots?
Probably not, considering your skill, but still, it's possible?

i hooked it up the same way i did when i connected it to my handyduo's screen and batteries... just like G-force shows in his great diagrams.Life of Brian wrote:Actually, the power supply for the SJ3 is 9v, so it can even run off of that. I don't think you got the voltage wrong.
Exactly where did you connect power and ground?

G-force has modded several sjiii's, so i know his guide is correct.
they were hooked up exactly like they were supposed to be.
