Friend updated PSP to 3.80: is he boned?

My friend got a PSP a few days ago and without really thinking updated it to 3.80 official firmware.

He's pretty bored of it already but would be happy if he could get homebrew and such on it. I have looked around and there hasn't been a straight answer: how can he downgrade? Tutorials talking about Pandora batteries only talk about slims, and he has an old style.

Thanks for any help!

I'm pretty sure that any phat can be downgraded with the pandora.

Pandora is his only choice, works for both versions.
