Hey all, I haven't been on this section of the forum in a long time now...
Anyways, I am resurrecting my old NESp project, and I am looking to do something with real nintendo hardware inside. I was thinking of getting a Famicom or Nes top loader mobo to do the job, since it's the smallest real NES board available. The main reason I want to do it this way is because I hate having messed up audio in my games, and I want to play Castlevania 3 on the road. NOAC, of course, can't provide this.
Anybody know anything about Famicom mobos, like how big they are, etc? I know the top loading NES boards are smaller by a lot from the regular NES boards. However, I have heard that the top loader NES units have this strange problem with video artifacts on the screen, which is only made more noticeable when you AV mod them. Anyone know anything about this?
If I made a famicom portable it would theoretically be smaller than an NES portable simply because the cartridges are not so huge. And then if I played Akumajo Dracula (the FC version of CV3) I could get the extra audio channels. (that game sounds so awesome!)
Anybody have suggestions here? Thanks.

I would say a FC is the way to go. They are cheaper than a top loader and have a smillar size mobo, I don't know the specifics. The smaller carts would help and the extra sound channels are nice.
I will be getting a FC soon so I can measure the board if you need me to.

Sounds good, I've been looking at some pics onine, most notably at this site here: http://www.famicomworld.com/Workshop/AV_Mod.htm
and it looks like it's already a really small board, and if I chop off the RF board it gets even smaller. Then, I can slice off the ground shield, and maybe some more stuff too (better not get too slice happy...
) Anyways, that;s the plan, if I an get the board cheaply that is.
