worst day of my life
as most of you well know a few months ago i came into possesion of a very nice bright red 1990 volvo 740 turbo station. well it pains me to say the volvo is no more (probably) as i just wrecked it about an hour ago. on my way to school i made the unwise choice of taking the mostly gravel route to school as opposed to the mostly highway route (why i dont know) and going around a corner at around 30mph (best estimate) i was fine till past the corner where i came onto a sheet of solid ice and lost traction, i tried to steer out of the skid but it was to no avail, i went off the road into a ditch and hit a few small trees, the front end of the volvo was pretty badly damaged from what i could see, probably the bumper hood grill headlights driverside fender and unknown other parts would have to be replaced to drive it again, it was running when i shut off the key and got out so i know it wasnt fatal to the car but it will likely be beyond my budget to repair.

No, god hates me more. You may have damaged your car but I have been stuck with a crap motherboard that randomly loses power to the USB ports for almost a year now.Triton wrote:im pretty sure its because god hates me and wants me to be miserable!![]()

Well I hope you get it fixed I really like that car!
O. M. G. I did that exact same thing on saturday. Actually word for word basically. Except I did it in my mom's car, with 4 other people in the car and one got a concussion.
That's a scary coincidence...

Any damage to the engine? I know you said it's out of your budget, but its way cheaper than buying a new car if all you have to do is replace a few body parts.
As far as I can see the steering is all fine and dandy.
Speaking of driving, I need to start learning how to drive
and I get to learn how to drive in a Manual Transmission car, (2006 Ford Fusion) mainly cuz my dad wants me to

At least it wasn't the Olds! (Though that thing would have plowed through the trees and kept on going...)
$500 for repairs is reasonable if it was in good shape before the accident. (Especially if you'd be hard-pressed to find an equally decent car for that much.) File an insurance claim and get some estimates.
If it was still running normally when you came to a stop, the engine and drive system should be okay. (It was RWD, right?) You can probably pick up the headlights, bumper, and sheet metal from a boneyard to save a few bucks. (Maybe some internals if they're necessary.)
On the plus side, you said it still moves under its own power so the engine and drivetrain survived, it looks OK from the firewall back, the driver's side front wheel is still in alignment so the steering should be okay.
If it can still move under its own power, go for it.
I wouldn't say "RIP", since it's not exactly "dead". Its' more like Steve Austin (The Six Million Dollar Man) or Alex Murphy (Robocop).

Manuals are much harder than automatics, but they're a lot more fun. You can push the clutch in down long hills (saving gas), drive around in 4'th or 5'th a lot (also saving gas), climb into the power band (loads of fun), or if the battery dies you can push start it (not fun, but useful)!Jongamer wrote:I get to learn how to drive in a Manual Transmission car, (2006 Ford Fusion) mainly cuz my dad wants me to

lol wut?tom61 wrote:Bah. A hammer, some bondo, and a new headlight it'll be good as new! Fix it yourself, pound it back into roughly the same shape, then use bondo to make look purdy, sand, paint, then wire in a new light. Practically the same as building a portable!

It's not that easy. This is way different than portablizing. yes he could hammer out the dents if he wanted to. And fix the car to where it looks halfway decent. But if his car's frame is bent which it most likely is. He would need a professional to straighten it out.tom61 wrote:Bah. A hammer, some bondo, and a new headlight it'll be good as new! Even tho Triton is the frankencase extrordinare. He is not a franken-car-body extrordinare.
