Finally got reply from my e-mail, not good news though (his reply on top):
Sorry for the late reply. The DS does not output an analog video
signal, so it's not possible to simply wire it to a different screen
(like PSone for example). For s-video or composite output, you will
need to use a video encoder. For analog RGB, maybe you could get away
with using just a DAC and some extra logic to adjust the timing. If the
PSone screen only accepts PAL, that's another problem, as DS video runs
at 60Hz. At any rate, it's not a trivial project... if you don't have
much of a background in electronics, I think you will have a lot of
difficulty taking on this project.
I hope that answers your questions.

As I recall, when I was researching before, the only tv-out add-on was a prototype from that company who went out of business in Hong Kong whne Sony went for them. The comments I read about the prototype were hardly flattering anyway.
It looks like you need to be a pretty major electronics geek to be able to make such a project work; way over the head of any level I will ever get to.

Kyo - yes, that's the one. I couldn't remember how to spell it!
The only links on Google for tv out on a DS referred to Lik-sang. I read some reviews from prototype testers and they were less than complimentary about the visual quality as I recall.
If anyone was to develop one, and it was good quality, it could make for a nice little project; however it doesn't look likely, after all the DS has been out for a while now and no-one seems to have made a tv-out facility for the DS.
