Go the xbox all the way. There's so much you can do with it. Get a chip and add a hard drive to it. best thing I've ever done with a console.

Considering that an Xbox can easily be a home Media Player, I'd go with that.

Add a large LCD screen, add some speakers, new case, bigger hard drive and a modchip. Bing bang boom, you've got a Media Center.

Do you have to do anything special to upgrade an xbox hard drive or do you just plug it in?

Pretty sure you need a modchip for it, then you just plug 'er in.

But don't take my word for it, I might be wrong.

With a modchip, you can have an unlocked hard drive, but a softmod requires it to be locked. It still has to be formatted a special way I believe (check xbox-scene.com for more info on that). I have not done it; my softmodded Xbox still has it's stock hard drive.

Well from when I tried, found out its a dead hard drive but I didn't know that at the time. You do a softmod, easy as pie. Then I think it was called AID that was a disk with lots of apps and you would hook the new drive in the dvd IDE drive and use the app on the disk to make it your new drive, then once its done put it in instead of the normal hard drive and pop in the dvd drive.

No mod chips needed.
