Mr. Backup (Z64) Vs. Doctor V64 - which is better?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

The V64 is large, sits under your N64, and can load games either off a CD-R or parallel port in the back (good for writing your own games.)

The Z64 is more expensive, uses ZIP disks but can be converted to a harddrive or compactflash. It is only meant to play games, and has no way to develop games. It sits on top of the N64 and blocks the cooling vents.

I have the V64, if you're lucky you'll find one on ebay from britain. Expect to pay from $150-220 for a 256Mbit model.

The Z64s get up to $300, and are more user friendly. They're only good for pirating.

yes, you can play any games (home-made or otherwise) off of CDs, or load a game image to the unit directly from your computer (useful for developers).

I know there are probably no portable applications with such a device, but a laptop 64 that takes cds would be freakin sweet.

Or could it work portable?

I have long been considering an FPGA-based N64 portable that takes some kind of 'mass storage' (probably SD cards). No promises. But its related to my field of study...

Realise though that you would pretty much have to rev engineer the entire n64 chipset (all the custom chips)

edit: unless you mean some kind of flash card. That could work.

Ya I know about marshalls version. Like I said in my edit I first thought you meant making the entire n64 into an fpga!
