Demonoid’s tracker still works and ironically wasn’t affected by this latest issue, although it’s the essential part in the process of downloading content through BitTorrent. According to the official IRC channel of this popular site, Demonoid administrator is already working on returning everything back to normal. I wouldn’t wonder if they decided to move their servers to different country and hosting company though, the pressure on p2p applications in Canada is increasing every week…

Hey I downloaded that as well.Kurt_ wrote:I was downloading a primus discography, and it's a demonoid tracker, but it's currently actively refusing me. I don't know if this adds to this conversation at all. (And clue what it means?)
Kurt_ wrote: I would use tact switches but I want the mushy feel. Mushy = God. (I typed that correctly).

"According to the Demonoid IRC channel, the tracker is still working, and they expect the site to be back up soon:
[+mntrSCTf] Welcome to #Demonoid | Site is down, tracker is intermittent (sometimes up, sometimes down), No Current ETA is known. That is all we know...DON'T ASK | Alternate forums at www.demonoiders.com. Expect the site to return, unless we hear otherwise from Deimos."
I certainly hope so.

Canadian Police Tolerates Piracy For Personal Use
It looks like they might be coming back...Torrent Freak wrote:The Canadian police announced that it will stop targeting people who download copyrighted material for personal use. No, the discussion here is about Demonoid being closed, not about piracy. Demonoid is closed because of copyright infringement, but that doesn't mean it doesn't provide legal freeware and the like. And trust me, we've locked and deleted several threads due to piracy talk before, if this gets out of hand, which it hasn't, I'll close it ASAP.Limewater wrote:Wow. Mention of the word "marijuana" without discussion of its use is enough to get a thread locked and several posts deleted.
Direct confession and discussion of piracy... not so much.

I was just making an observation about a few of the above posts. You know, "Good news, the Canadian police will be more tolerant of piracy," "I was downloading copyrighted material X when this went down," "Where can I get invites to alternative restricted access trackers," etc...
But I'm not a mod, so I won't comment further.
Edit:
OK, I lied about not commenting further. I will also say that piratey conversations are usually shut down pretty quickly on the forum.

Untrue. I find usenet to be very organized and usually have pre'd things within one day. You just need to be in the right places (#altbin @ EFNet, anyone?)gamemasterAS wrote:Is pretty good, usenet is un organized and not very complete but if you want stuff in a hurry it is great.
