gamecube handheld

Post by atomfitz »

hey...i am rather new to this site, but straight to the point:

I am trying to find someone to build for me a gamecube handheld.
If you are interested comment back, or email me at atomfitz@earthlink.net

i can provide the gamecube and the controller for the buttons and joysticks.

i will provide further specs on what i am hoping to have built if anyone is interested.

i would like to have this done for no more than 400$ if anyone is willing to do it.

Not many small Gamecube handhelds have been made. Just a heads up. Picture a normal sized Gamecube with a controller on top of it.

I've been considering it - there were images of a so-called "Gamecube Portable" that kept going around the web. I'm about half way along myself. If things go well for me, I may take on your commission but I'm not promising anything yet.

Can do. Exams right now, so nothing for a week or so at the very least. And that's a big if - I'm not taking on the commission unless I know I can do it, and at the moment I don't know if I can.

You're going to need a battery with a lot more power than a 9v battery. Look into NiMH or Li-ion packs from batteryspace.com or similar. You'll want a ~12v pack, and as far as Ah goes, *cue somebody who has actually poked around with a Gamecube*

Ok...so ive started on my own gamecube handheld and its coming along smoothly...ive got the controller apart and wired to the p1 port and everything out of the case and optimised for size but im having a problem that im sure people know easy fixes for...

i cant get the friggin disc to read :x

ive been screwing with it for like 3 days now and i cant get it working...theres got to be a simple fix for this simple problem...

anyways... when I put a disc in and close the lid (by pushing the little lid open swich) it trys to read for a seck and says "please insert a nintendo gamecube disc" and it kinda sounds like the laser is grinding against the edge of the track it slides on...

...soooo can anybody help me?

thx.

I'm planning on making one. I haven't made a portable in too long. I haven't even really started my SS64 yet, it has been on long term hold for about a year. If you fail I will sell mine (if I make it portable) for a decent price*.

*price of materials plus the result a time based pay system so I get a fair amount of money and you get a fairly priced portable.

You may have already figured this out by now, judging by your last post date. But, I had a similar problem when I built my PSOneP. The problem was that I was trying to make the laser move up and down. Like, okay, the way the handheld was, the disc is spinning vertically. And the track the laser was on ran up and down instead of side to side. And the motor just couldn't take it. A quick redesign of my case (which was easy enough seeing as my first case was cardboard, haha), and a 90 degree rotation fixed this issue.

If this isn't the case, you might have to adjust the pot on the laser assembly. There's some posts around here that tell you how to do that. Might just need to turn it up a bit.
