Can I get a check(list) please.

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

Can I get a check(list) please.

Hi, I'm pretty new to the whole Benheck world of portabalization. (I've been reading his furom and watching his site about two months now. I decided to join a few days ago)

Anyway, I am seriously considering making a portable. I've been taking stuff apart and putting it back together since I could hold a screwdriver, but never before had I thought of altering or combinging something like a Video game console.

I have a few old systems that I am considering altering. but i dont have any of the right models.

I have:
2nd Genesis, (Sega CD and 32X.)
1st Super NES,
Atari Jaguar--(which I'm not sure even works...)
Sega Saturn
and the main problem I am facing is this...

WHAT ALL DO I NEED to even begin?

I've searched the furoms for atleast an hour every day and I can find a checklist for all the systems that are being portabalized.

I know that I will need a screen (PS1 is voted easiest to use and most popular, it seems)
A battery pack, and I got a suggestion for that already. (Thanks Vskid and Felino!)
But I dont have a lot of money to waste but I am willing to try this out. Even if I wind up losing everything by really just screwing it up. But I need to know what MATERIALS I will need.

I've put together a small list using common sense in the very beginning, and so far my list isn't to far from home when compared to whats posted here.

Soldering Iron
Screwdrivers, Large flat (x2) and small Phillips (x2-3)
Case materials***
Battery
Screen
Adapter (I want my portable capable of running off of both is that common or not? Good Idea? Bad? I dont know--HELP?...)

Is there a standard checklist for the different systems or something?
I'm sorry if I somehow missed the sticky or whatnot, but I would really like it if someone could give me a general checklist for NES and SNES modding I would be VERY grateful!!
Thanks a lot.

***************-----------------------------------------****************

I had originally posted this, by accident, in the N64 forums. Please forgive me. My main goal is to portabalize a N64 but I think it more prudent to work on some cheaper systems first.

If those who've successfully completed a portable of any kind, PLEASE send me a list of the items they needed (Price ranges a plus but not required) and I will put together a master list.

By 2nd Genesis I assume you mean the Genesis Model II? In which case, I would recommend using that as your first portable.

Checklist;

9.6v RC Battery (About $25.00 at RadioShack)

Sony PSone Screen (About $35.00 on eBay)

Plastic Case (About $7.00 at Poly Case)

I'm assuming you have (and if you don't buy) these;

Soldering Iron ($8.00 new at RadioShack)

Solder ($3.00 or so)

Screwdriver ($3.00 or so)

Needle-Nose Pliers ($5.00 or so)

A Knife

Things you may want to think about buying;

Multimeter (necessity for cart slot relocation $20.00)

De soldering Iron (to cover up those mistakes $10.00)

I shrugged this off the first time I heard it, but PRACTICE SOLDERING AT LEAST TWICE before attempting anything big. My first soldering job didn't go too well, but I have GREATLY improved with just 4 or 5 more tries.

I didn't really touch much on what you'll need for the case. Might want to take a look at the stickies in that thread.

Hope this helps.

Get a NiMH 7.2v 3300mAh battery In my experience, 9.6v packs are NiCd and made of AAs and have a really low mAh rating. The 7.2v packs are usually sub-C's and have a higher capacity.

Desoldering braid is better, and faster.

Butane soldering irons pwn my socks.
