Batteries to power a Portable? And yes, I'm a newb!

Hi, I'm pretty new to the modding scene--How many times do you here that line on these furoms?

Anyway, I am trying to get a good feel for Portabalizing and come up with a basic cost estimate for modding SNES.

I was wondering if some on could give me good battery suggestions and maybe a few ball park price ranges on them?

Also, why is that we must go out of our way for batteries rather than use the rechargeable ones that are available in the GBAsp? Or even the rechargeable battery pack that you can get for a regular GBA?

It'll need ~7.5v (depending on your screen), one of the best cheap batteries are 7.2v 3300mAh (or higher) NiMH rc battery packs. They cost about $20-30 depending on the store and capacity, and are one of the best/easiest/safest ways to power a portable. They're made up of sub-C batteries (just a bit smaller that regular C batteries), so if you take 6 C batteries you can get any idea for how big the packs are. They're in 2 rows of 3, - - -.

Those Gba SP battery packs are only 600mAh, with about 8 of them, 2 in series, and then 4 in parallel for each (might be backwards on that, my memory is going), would give 7.4v and 2400 mAh. Sure it would cost around $80 and it'd be pretty big, but.. Nah I have no idea why anyone would bother.

aahh...Guess that clears that up.
What about GBAMicro? Do you think those batteries would work?

They would, but you would need a lot of them. (They're also low-mAh batteries.)

Darn...I guess there is no way around it, huh?

It looks like I'm gonna have to find some battery that is small, compact and hold a nice long charge...and fit inside of a decently sized portable...

buy broken portable DVD players. (or just the batteries themselves) those mostly use 7.4V, are small and not too heavy. Also, flat.

Well, that's why some of us have used lithium ion batteries or in the case of N64 or GameCube portables, lithium polymer batteries. However, I'd really suggest starting with an RC car battery pack if you're still pretty new to this. They're pretty forgiving, hold a charge for a long time, and are easy to work with. Easiest thing to do would be to put some heavy duty velcro on the back of the case and attach the batteries that way.
