Zip Drive on DC

Post by Ragnarok »

anyone heard of this? it was scrapped, but SEGA was going to release one for the DreamCast, if you go to wikipédia it'll be there, maybe this will help on the HD for DC a little.

That sounds really cool. It's unlike any other storage for games.
Valve is the best company.

Many ppl thinks the zip drive (well, the one you can see a picture of on the net) was in fact an empty box, only to show what it might looks like if it's released.

It ain't impossible that there's a prototype floating around (or paperwork about it)

But I doubt anybody here will have/release such a thing.

Even if you found someone with one, it wouldn't do you any good, as developers never programed anything into games for it, so games wouldn't read it like a memory card or anything. It would just be a useless lump on your DC.

Wow. He has bought 6 things on eBay, and not sold anything. Still, I've not seen those pictures before, and no obvious Photoshopping. I doubt he'll get $10K for it.

Guys, look at the picture of the zip disk. Now look at this:
Image
That is the real prototype. Notice the zip100 symbol in the top left of the real thing has a dark blue tab to the left and is directly on the corner of the disk, while the ebay item has it slightly offset without the blue tab. Additionally, the drive in the ebay auction is a slightly different color than the Dreamcast while the real thing is flawless. This could be a result of aging, but then why doesn't the dreamcast fade just like it?

Lastly, why does the auction drive have the expansion clip slots on the bottem like the Dreamcast when it is obviously shaped different? It's fake. That's why.

I was soooooo right. :D

From the Racketboy Forums:

It's %100 fake.
More evidence. My post in this topic and as The Apprentice on the Racketboy forums shows up in google searches for Dreamcast Zip Drive. After I posted that stuff, the price of the thing went down $6000!

Lol I sent the seller this question :P

" Well I can tell this is a fake, a nice one at that. Could you tell me how you molded that great case for it?

See the real zip disk has the zip100 logo right in the corner, and not having space like your fake. "

I would have never noticed that if it wasn't for you man. :P
I want his case skills!

Man, I use zip disks all the time. I wish Sega would have released this... Maybe if this guy made suche a good fake then somebody here could make one. If anyone has the skills, pm me and I can talk about sending a free zip drive to you. The old Parrallel kind (non-usb).

I think the best way, would be for it to hook into the vmu slot. Game's wouldn't send saves any other way. If you tricked the DC into thinking the zip drive was a vmu, it might work. Probably not tho :(
